understanding and forgivness are the keys i think......you realize how insecure many people are, so perhaps you should feel compassion toward them,  towards all things really.  and why let it bother you?  do you really care that much about what they think or say?  you should speak up for yourself if you have to, and you always have the right to defend yourself in a fight.  remember. being humble doesnt mean you take peoples shit.. :wink:

i'm quiet and fairly passive... it makes me an easy target, but usually people respect me or my space at least. the others i have (usually) been able to let their shit roll off me and ignore it... it makes it not so much fun for them so they look for somebody that they can get a bigger reaction from.

I've been there, people used to fuck with me, and take me for granted. I just stopped caring what they thought, completely, found some real friends, found good music and now I am happy, content and confident. People generally don't fuck with me, and I think its because they know I won't regard it, or take it. I don't hate people that have hurt me in the past, i've forgiven them. I try to remain in a place of constant understanding.

I agree with Enter, truly don't care or worry about a little pain coming your way, realize its all part of life and learning and put it into perspective, carry yourself with confidence and assurance and you should be fine.

It is true, I found that out when I realized my own insecurity was the fuel of those that made fun of me. I worked on myself and that was my solution. Now I am rarely ever bothered by anyone, and if someone feels the need to make fun of me still, i'll comment on how thier own insecurity causes them to need a victim in which to lash out on.

i was never picked on because i stood up for myself, and when someone got loud i would laugh in their eye, and if someone got violent, they got a busted head. im not saying that violece is good, but self defense is.

I can totally relate to you. I have had the exact same thing happen in my experience, a few years of depression and people fucking with me simply because I am quiet and don't toot my own horn a lot. I don't really know what to say about it, I usually just try to pretend it doesn't bother me even when it does. I have had people play mind games with me, just for the sake of fucking with me because I'm the quiet type. No idea what there is for them to get out of this sort of behaviour, but they do it. My advice is to just stay the fuck away from these types of people, anyone who acts that way has serious issues of their own.

The Portable Nietzsche
That should be enough for awhile.  Basically, you should try to read anything translated, compiled, interpreted, whatever by Walter Kaufmann.

You could probably find some Nietzsche writings online... but it'll only be bits n' pieces. 
You'd be doing yourself an injustice by not getting knee-deep in one of his books.

Almost forgot... What Nietzche Really Said is an informative read.  It dispels alot of myths and misconceptions (but so does Kaufmann).

Hey!

Don't let it get you down - when I was 19 it was pretty much the same deal for me too. The vast majority of people are assholes and that will never change, so don't focus your attention on how to change it 'cause you can't.

Rather - ask yourself how you can deal with it, how you can turn the situations that arise to your own advantage. If you have differences that they notice and persecute you for, look at how to exploit those differences to your advantage.

In my life, people have given me tons of shit and I stressed over it for many years. eventually I learned that they gave me shit for two reasons... firstly because most people are extremely intolerant of differences, and secondly because they really enjoyed the reactin they got from me when they took cheap snipes.

So... your first step is to disarm them: Do not react negatively to situations where people treat you poorly. If someone thinks it's fun or cool for them to take a cheap shot at your expense, make damned sure that they look stupid when nothing funny or interresting arises as a result of their insulence. Fuck'em! Don't give'em the satisfaction! Ever!

Next - believe in yourself. 10 years ago I was getting humiliated and kicked about by (seemingly) everyone 'cause I had a different approach to life. Now, when I go back to my home town, so many people tell me how much they admired me for having the confidence to be different & rebellious... and so many of the dick-heads who gave me shit now approach me with caution 'cause, frankly, they know that nowadays it won't be an effort for me to kick their asses. The tables are turned.

If you're keeping to yourself and being quiet, and some asshole makes a big scene, instead of just reacting emotionally, ask yourself "what makes this person so insecure that he/she needs to put negative attention onto me just to feel better?". Answer that question in the moment and you're instantly armed with an battery of "sensitive topics" to raise that'll have that person retreating rapidly.

Most importantly though, know that sometimes your entire life can feel like a bad trip, day after day after day, and it feels like it's never going to end, never going to change.
Study a few famous people's autobiographies and you'll see that strong people are forged in such fires. But it's up to you to decide WHAT YOU CAN CHANGE and what YOU WILL DO to imrpove your life RIGHT NOW.

I love the shroomz too, but you'v gotta believe me - you've got to be the captain of your ship and make the changes yourself.

Hmm...from what I've read of Jasper... he's too much like Kierkegaard to really understand Nietzsche. I haven't read all two billion pages (or however many pages that guy wrote- ALOT)... and I don't plan to either. If you can't get it under 500 words AND you keep repeating the same shit over and over... it's just not pretty after awhile.

Whatever... it's just my two cents...

this book isn't that long. although he does integrate his philosophy of Existenz into his study of Nietzsche. i suggest it because it is a straightforward introduction to both Nietzsche's life and some of his thought.
