i have to move my san pedro to a bigger pot, but cactus soil was sold out. can i mix up some with potting soil, vermiculite, perlite, etc? if so what is the ratio?

It may seem like a lot of work, but so far my peruvian torch seems to like it a whole lot. Oh and all that stuff about the hole in the ground, it's a good idea, but I think its too hard cause it rains a shit load where I live and I don't think that cacti really like too much rain. Hope it helped.

That BouncingBear page has some good tips but also many things I stongly disagree with. I recommend anybody with even a casual interest in cacti head to trout.yage.net and buy his book on Sacred Cacti.

Anyway, if you cant find cactus mix, using regular potting mix is OK for San Pedro, if you add some extra perlite (like 30-50%). It will work for peruvianus too. I would advise against using this with many other cacti species though... but San Pedro are damn hardy and adaptable plants. It takes effort to kill one.

agree 100% with murple. pedros and perus are very flexible, just use reg potting soil (50%) and perlite (50%)
