The Ritual of the Empyrean Void revisited
    #9369712 - 12/04/08 11:47 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

93
August of last year, I posted a thread on a ritual I had developed at the time donned the ritual of the empyrean void.  Since then I have been practicing this ritual with regularity and have made a few small alterations which I feel help to make it more complete and profound.  But I'm reviving the issue to offer some personal insight into what is considered to be magick through commentary on this specific ritual, as well as recent experimentation in combination with salvia divinorum.  Discussions of a magickal flavor often bring about perspectives of a dualistic nature.  As such, consider my commentary to be merely a solitary bias, despite being the ritual's configurator.  Is not a song capable of birthing emotion, understanding, and idea beyond that of its creator?

Please understand that despite its seeming complexity, this ritual is in actuality very simple, fast, and easy to perform.  I'm a bit allergic to superfluous filler, and I attempted to reflect this in its design.  Of course, being as this is a mushroom forum, I have no expectations on adaptation.  So consider this interesting reading for contemplation's sake if you must.  TALLY HO!!! On with it already!!

I'll begin with the subset and signs, followed by the ritual itself, and then the commentary.

This ritual is performed sans the altar and any tools. The circle is an important part in this ritual, however I feel that since the circle is dissolved at the end, a visualized circle from the onset might be better suited than a physical circle.  Strong visualization skills are required for this as it is involved throughout(this is also why I consider it to be a good ritual to follow another in which a circle is created, such as the lbrp or mpr).  In this instance, I visualize a dark green circle but other colors of preference may be used(I feel that brown, citrine, and black make for good colors suitable for circle visualization).  As far as apparel is concerned, I'll usually either don my robe and nemyss or go naked, as I've always felt that concentrated acts of magick should be performed with some sort of differentiation from everyday reality, through the garb, to instill a psychological importance on the matter.  But again, I've come to find that it is not necessary for this ritual, as acts of chaos magick should be able to be performed without any limitation.  Therefore, this ritual can thus be performed in any setting.  It is also performed the same by a male or female practitioner.

There are 3 signs necessary for one to learn.
-The sign of silence: Right foot straight ahead, left foot outwards at a 90* angle, heels touching.  The forefinger of the dominant hand is placed vertically over the lips, as if shushing the yapping wanker behind you at the movie theater.
-The sign of the arrow: This is essentially the same as the sign of the enterer with exception to the arms.  Left foot facing inward(45* is comfortable), right foot extended a step or two forwards(slightly angled outwards for comfort).  The body leans heavily forward over the right foot.  The arms come together as if making a triangle, joined at the hands which make a smaller triangle.  The thumbs make the base with the fingers forming the apex.
-The death posture.  There are numerous forms of this(one can search online for variations) with the main goal of a state of no-mind through discomfort and suppressed breathing.  The method I prefer is a kneeling position.  The back is heavily arched backwards along with the neck(the face should be looking straight up or even slightly backwards).  The breath is held for as long as the posture endures.  I have added a form of external stimulus deprivation in that using my hands, I block my ears with my thumbs, place my forefingers over my eyes with slight pressure, middle fingers covering my nostrils, and ring fingers keeping my mouth shut.  If salvia is to be smoked, it is best to take the hit and assume the death posture still retaining the hit(use an extract in which strong effects can be felt in one hit- I use non-standardized 20x).  This posture can be extremely intense, especially in combination with salvinorin a!!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The ritual of the empyrean void

-Stand center of circle facing east, vibrate RASHITH HA-GILGALIM in a beckoning authoritative voice.  Visualize a brilliant blue sphere emanating from the swadhisthana chakra(sexual region) within which rests a serpent coiled. Spend 3 breath cycles on this visualization.
-Leaving sphere in center, advance to east region of circle and rotate clockwise to face west. Vibrate THERION (kingly and sure tone), assuming sign of silence following.
-Advance to west through center(uniting sphere with groin momentarily) and rotate clockwise to face east. Vibrate BABALON (feminine and compassionate), sign of silence
-Advance to center, turn, and go to north facing south(do not go around circle). Vibrate NUIT (feminine and metallic, bell-like), sign of silence.
-Advance to south facing north. Vibrate HADIT (sharp and abbreviated) , sign of silence.
(Note on this portion- The sphere must be visualized at all times.)

-Advance back to center facing east uniting swadhisthana chakra with sphere.  Throw head back and intensely vibrate SHEMHAMPHORASH.  At this moment, superimposed with the physical form is a mother figure(head looking straight-physical form remains looking upwards) and the sphere morphs into a fetus.
Next is a three breath cycle process in which the physical head slowly begins to look straight ahead, eventually uniting with the mother figure at the end.
-On the first breath is the child.
-On the second breath is the pubescent.
-On the third breath is the current practitioner united with the mother figure.

-Break from mother figure and advance to east of circle still visualizing mother figure in center. Assume sign of the arrow with arms extending outside the circle. In mind's eye, visualize giant black monsters fighting one another and vibrate THAGIRION
-Move along(this is crucial) circle to southeast(clockwise). Sign of arrow. Visualize an eye and vibrate AYIN
-Move to south. Sign of arrow. Visualize dull yellow, demon headed dog-like monster and vibrate SAMAEL
-Move to southwest. Sign of arrow. Visualize the sun and vibrate RESH
-Move to west. Sign of arrow. Visualize a naked, barren woman with a large snake coiled upon her amidst a massive storm and vibrate GAMALIEL
-Move to northwest. Sign of arrow. Visualize the practitioner's astrological sign symbol and vibrate TZADDI
-Move to north. Sign of arrow. Visualize ravens emerging from a blazing volcano and vibrate A'ARAB ZARAQ
-Move to northeast. Sign of arrow. Visualize the practitioner's corpse within a casket and vibrate NUN
(note on this portion-It is important that the mother figure is visualized at all times in the center.  Also note that in its totality, this portion of the ritual is representative of the chaosphere as the sign of the arrow geometrically protrudes from the circle eight times)

-Return to east and at the moment of arrival, immediately begin to spiral inward counter-clockwise to the center continuously vibrating LA(fierce but quiet expelling all breath). Spiraling inward, merge once again with the mother figure in the center.  This is a rapid movement intended to dizzy.  Also, from the moment the practitioner begins to spiral, the circle is no more and is the spiral following the practitioner. The moment of unification with the mother figure,  assume the death posture(I recommend very deep, rapid breathing to proceed its assumption) dropping upon the knees until a state of gnosis is attained by holding the posture as long as bearable.  Within this action, the two conjoined figures dissolve, along with the spiral, leaving none.  This is the critical moment in the ritual.  If salvia is to be consumed, it is ideal to have an assistant hand over the smoking device just prior to assuming the posture following the deep breaths.  Hold the smoke for as long as possible, exhale, and resume the death posture in the normally used way.  If an assistant is unavailable, it would not be devastating to have the device in a nearby location and to grab it after uniting with the mother figure, following with the same actions as above.
*******************************************************************************************************
So lets begin with the commentary, shall we?  Okay then, it's apparent that there are 3 distinct parts of this ritual which, for the sake of convenience, I'll label the oasis, the desert, and the void respectively.  I'm aware that the style of commentary changes radically.  I began it after doing a left brain stimulator session and then did the rest today with no such stimulation(I'm more right brained today).  Whatever, shakes things up a bit.

The Oasis: The first visualization is of a coiled serpent within a sphere housed at the sexual chakra.  Naturally, this chakra has traditionally been associated with the sexual organs, not only the penis and vagina, but of the reproductive system as a whole including sperm and egg.  It represents the sexual desire and its qabalistic association is that of the sephira Yesod, foundation.  Without delving too deep into various Freudisms, it's not too far fetching to make the association of foundation with sexual desire granted how deeply ingrained one's sexual condition is rooted in one's mind and manner(not to mention the parallel to society as a whole).

In esoterica and the mythology of yore few, if any, animals carry as much significance and reverence as the serpent.  And of its many associations, one that is likely to immediately jump into the minds of mystically oriented folk is that of kundalini, the subtle energy which is said to remain, until awakened through specific processes, coiled at the base of the spine.  One can refer to II,26 of AL for a synthesis of the relation of kundalini to Hadit ,"I am the secret serpent coiled about to spring: in my coiling there is joy.  If I lift up my head, I and my Nuit are one.  If I droop down mine head, and shoot forth venom, then is rapture of the earth, and I and the earth are one".  This verse is to be taken into regard in connection with the action of the serpent later in this ritual, as well as simple tantric philosophy.  It does'nt take much thought abstraction to interpret this verse in regards to orgasm("shoot forth venom") in comparison to the tantric rites of achieving ecstatic states of consciousness void of ejaculation.

There is, of course, further significance of this initial symbolization.  In 3 letters: DNA.  Relation to the coiling of the serpent and the baby-bearing constituents is apparent.  But there is further symbology here which I relate to Leary's neurogenetic circuit(the akashic records), and Crowley's "babe in the egg of blue", hence the blue sphere.  Herein lies the evolutionary blueprint and the significance of this in may be revealed through practice of the ritual and my discourse on the salvia experience later described.

Any ritual worthy of practice must have an opening which punctuates the ritual from normal consciousness.  This may be a statement(as here, which we proclaim "rashith ha gilgalim"), action(such as knocking on something with the knocks in representation of intent- a 3/5/3 knock is common, 11 being symbolic of magick), or the use of a tool(the bell is the traditional magickal implement as used for opening).  Rashith ha gilgalim is associated with the sephira kether and the primum mobile.  It is the material aspect of kether and is thus associated with the physical body of the magician in aspiration to the higher.

We note in the following part that in totality, the squared circle is formed(remembering the necessity of the initial circle) .  This is in representation of the unification of lingam and yoni which may be regarded as the divine archetypes of the male and female phallus, respectively.

Blasphemy!  All eyes gaze upon the beast, his heads dancing aflame with purpose.  He hath waded for aeons the sea of meaningless existence and hath finally emerged ashore to the whore's beckoning necessity.  She appears as a crimson face, no more, beauteous and pure in her indiscriminate whoredom.  Her gaze all-penetrant over the eyes which once composed the sea.  With the sword of reason he once held dear does he make its final sacrifice.  The callous amphora dissolves coming into self-realization that it was her cup all along.  And whenso the final bit is at last transformed, is blood and cup not one but none.  And so does love rejoice this unseen point, while time surrenders to will's defender.

The Desert:  Shemhamphorash! I quote chapter 72 of "the book of lies"  by Frater Perdurabo:
"Shemhamphorash! all hail, divided Name!
Utter it once, O mortal over-rash! -
The universe were swallowed up in flame
-Shemhamphorash

Nor deem that thou amid the cosmic crash
May find one thing of all those things the same!
The world has gone to everlasting smash.

No! if creation is to possess an aim
(it does not.) it were only to make hash
Of that most "high" and that most holy game,
Shemhamphorash!"

The program has come into self-realization of itself.  For what is it but a confirmation?  A confirmation of acceptance.  A confirmation of denial.  The interplay of duality.  But the serpent rises as the lid of innocence is lifted.  Right now!  Separation!  "For I am divided for love's sake, for the chance of union." AL I,29

Chaos is summoned in its dark brilliance.  The chaosphere is established by pitting the vices against the non-vices to nullify the discrimination of their delusional hold for there is no difference.  "The chaosphere is charged and opened into the magical dimension by filling it with aetheric life force which has been paradoxically modulated" Peter Carroll in Liber Null. This is the chaosphere of the self, from Tiphareth to Yesod, Thagirion to Gamaliel, the conscious self to the unconscious self.  But the chaosphere is not a simple 2d construct and by design, it was chosen to not directly oppose the sephira and their qliphotic vices.  This paradox is more complete in that the construct of the tree of life is established in the form of the qliphotic mirrors of the sephira and the paths, represented by their corresponding Hebrew letters.

The idea of using symbols in magick is a fundamental objective of synthesis.  For it is quite self defeating, in the practice of ritual, to analyze the meaning of every part.  Thus, a single symbol is used to represent a far greater number of correspondences for the sake of convenience.  The level of success of a ritual may be directly proportionate to how much of it one has forgotten!  To wallow in interpretation in the moment is detrimental to will.  Though I speak much here of my perspective of the meaning of this ritual, in practice, it is best for one to segregate the semantics to the subconscious whilst maintaining a portal to the conscious through visual constructs.

Thagirion- The vice of tiphareth.  The drugs that hath been taken away.  The obligations that stifle desire.
Ayin- The eye of Shiva opened.
Samael- The vice of Hod.  Speak in the language of art and they understandeth not.
Resh- The sun fights itself for fighting's sake.  The illumination is a consequence, not the intention.
Gamaliel- The vice of Yesod.  Impalement by one's own sword.
Tzaddi- Behold the colors of the earth!
A'arab Zaraq- The vice of netzach.  How the devil can I study for this test with all this din?
Nun- The fish wanders out of the ocean to become man.

The Void: La is not.
The spiral.
"This is the creation of the world, that the pain of division is as nothing, and the joy of dissolution all." AL I,30

On salvia divinorum from a previous post=    "So what she really does is take your multiverse of perspectives, which includes all probable perspectives that have relation to the selected time sequence, and form one concentrated perspective in a digestible format looped for consciousness to experience.  Whereas one normally has subconscious filters enacted which prevent sense connections outside the programming the ego faculty deems logic from forming, these filters dissolve letting normally unrelated sense connections mold together.  This includes synesthesic phenomena as well as condensed sense relations not normally assessable through the memory filter.  However, this synthesized perspective fractal is not experienced in a circular looping pattern, but in a spiral.  And what is most important about this is that the axis of this spiral is one's intent.  Thus are all the connections above mentioned the interplay of consciousness to come into self-realization of this intent through means best suited to it(in its selected point of the life experience), unbound by the filters of the ego faculty."

Plug into the above ritual.

That is all.

Ah, good ol' ceremonial magick.

To the extent of my playing around with things of the orthodox magickal sort (I am not that well-versed in occult literature; having read only a few of Crowley's books, and a couple Hine and Carroll), I've found that I've obtained the best results when I didn't pander to another person's ritual--I find the effective process more of an intuitive one than any dry, follow the ritual to the letter-type intellectual performance.

IMO belief and visualization of exact desire is far more important than any symbolism, foot-positions, or chanted conglomeration of syllables.  I'd hypothesize that the efficacy of ceremonial magick is partly due to the less-developed sense of imagination and belief of adults that have been corrupted by the thunder-stealing knowledge of science and belief paradigm that anything supernatural is impossible; so inventing an elaborate system filled with countless symbols, meanings, and metaphors allows for the development of a faint hope that Crowley, Dee, and others actually have some compelling reason behind why their methods work, enabling true belief to form.  I've been practicing with invocations lately, and I've always gotten the best results when I spurned rote method, banishing rituals, and simply and spontaneously intuited how to achieve my Will.

Trust yourself, and know that you can achieve results.  "For truly I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you."

PS I find it odd how magicians make such an effort to differentiate "ordinary" reality from their magickal rituals.  Shouldn't we be trying to do the opposite; to blend the two states together so that we bring Magick into our continuously waking lives?

I appreciate your input.  Yeah, as with many things, what works well for others might not work well for the rest.  With me, ceremonial style magick tends to get counterproductive when it gets too complex.  I tried to keep this one simple(I know it does'nt appear that way, but it really is).  I still stand by my belief in the effectiveness of symbols, subconsciously representing a greater connection of correspondences, over desire.

On your comment about differentiating magick from ordinary reality, lets compare to taking a powerful psychedelic.  In some cases, particularly the higher dosages, I feel that it's optimal to set up conditions to separate the experience from the norm in order to prevent a "contamination" potentially preventing the flower from blossoming.  Things learned from the experience can be incorporated into one's "normal" life afterwards.  On the other hand, some trips cater to doing the same things one would do usually, and one might be able to gain new perspectives on things through direct interaction. So I guess it's not a set rule but one that is dependant on condition.
