How to innoculate a myco bag the correct way!
    #933754 - 10/05/02 01:23 AM (21 years, 6 months ago)

I've been looking at the posts and browsing around, but every post I see about people starting out with myco bags is they get no growth at all. I've innoculated my bags before and no growth, I've been there, but then I reinjected them the proper way and then 5-7 days the mycelium is spreading.

First of all, let's think about a jar with brown rice substrate. Do you inject the spores directly in the center of the cake, NO! You injected it on the outside of the cake, you should see the spore water come out of the syringe through the glass. SAME THING WITH THE BAGS! You inject it on the outside of the substrate, you should see the needle through the bag, and you should see the water come out of the syringe and spread through the part of the substrate touching the bag. Just make sure you don't puncture the bag or your SOL.

What about just pointing the needle straight up and having the spores land on top of the cake?

Also, will room temp work for those bags?

"What about just pointing the needle straight up and having the spores land on top of the cake?"
Dunno never tried it, it could probably still work, but you may need to compress the substrate into a nice rectangular cube.

"Also, will room temp work for those bags?"
depends what kind of strain. search around the message boards. I've read 80-85 degrees is good for colonizing, 75-80 for growing.

"how much honey water would be used?"
What the hell are you talking about? what honey water?

just wondering, people who did buy those myco bags, how many of you injected directly into the center of the substrate, and got 0 results?

What? Compress the substrate? Why? In my experience, that just slows down (or kills) mycelium growth.

I believe he's talking about club99's Honeywater Mycelium Tek, or some similar Tek. My guess would be that 5cc's would be adequate.

I had no problem when I compressed the substrate in the bags, they're fully colonized.
As for the honey water tek, didn't use it, so I have no idea.

well i should corrct myself, there were spores injected as well, i wanted to just toss in as much as possible cause i never have any success with this, when i do it limited because of my sterility....yeah...
but this honey water was good and the spores came with the bags so at least on of them in there should have grown.........

did you inject them like I did as described in the 1st post? did you inject about 2cc of spores? Other than that, I'm out of ideas why you can't get it working.

There's your problem, are you even reading this post? your aren't suppose to inject into the substrate. Read the 1st post.

no injected 2ccs of spore into two of them
a week later i got impatient and tossed the myc. solt'n in all of them
I am writing to customer service and hopefully i'll get 4 new ones
if so, i am gonig to innoc using spores and just leave them next to my furnace, in the box
should be fine right?

What is the consistancy of the bag supposed to be like?
mine is like the seeds are coated in something hard and sticky, they just dont seem to be very hydrated......
when i get new bags, should i put in a few CCs of sterile water to be safe?

OK, let me make something extremely clear, if you inject the spores into the bag, and into the substrate, you will get no results, you have to inject it where the bag meets the substrate. You can reinject in the bag with spores and they will be fine if you follow proper sterilization techniques. You can also inject sterilized water into the bag if it looks dry. A rule of thumb that I follow is let the bag sit for a day in about a 85 degree place, and if condensation forms on the bag, your fine, if you don't see any water droplets, then you can add more water.

Also about the bag, if it's inconsistant, you can mix up the bag to make sure that everything is evenly mixed, just don't be too rough or your'll destroy the bag.

You might think ur not suppose to inject into the substrate. But the directions say that this is how to get best results.

tahnks for that test using the water droplets, i'm using that from now on....
sterility wasnt an issue when doing these bags as it has been in the past for me...
I mixed the bag around A lot about a week ago cause it hadnt done anything.... i havent stretched or broken the plastic so i assume i wasnt to rough...
a question for these bags, when i get so impatient with this long wait, can i cut open the top, dump out grain, and then sterilize hydrate spawn, seal and pressure coo? I do like to live by the 3 R's....

*edit
about the side thing, i put enough in that some hit the side, some didnt go near it, point is, i should have had something to show for this amount of time waited

As long as it's clean I don't see a problem, but if your going to do that make your own substrate, I'm pretty sure the point of buying bags is because you don't have the supplies and/or time to make your own jars or bags.
