Ad-Aware or Spybot....or?
    #9367821 - 12/04/08 06:58 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

What do some of you think? What route should I go? I want something that doesn't bog my system down but keeps me protected.

Both. And get Spywareblaster and AVG free while you're at it. Scan your computer at least once a week and don't forget to keep them updated.

For what? Anti-virus? Anti-malware?
Spybot and Adaware are generally two tools you use once in a while to clean an infected system, not for preventative maintenance generally. I'd have both of them though.
Spybot can find things ad-aware can't sometimes, and vica versa.

For good protection a solid antivirus is pretty important. AVG free and Avast are both quite good.

Use autoruns and find out exactly what programs are loading up when you log into Windows. Or even, what programs load when you open up Explorer, internet explorer... etc.

give it a try, it's very efficient and easy to use.

Isn't that just the same thing as the Processes panel in Windows Task Manager...?

It is if you "End Process" any unwanted programs that are running, but how do you prevent them from loading up with windows every time you log on, through the Task Manager?

Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D are like the Napsters of spyware removal.  Sooo 90's.  There are much better out there.  Nod32 FTW.
