I have had good luck putting a heating pad under the bin, set to medium... I also have a cheapass digital thermometer I stuck into the substrate after sterilizeing with alchohol and before colonization... I just leave it in the substrate, in the bin all the time, and be very nice to not bump it when i push the button... 84 degrees all the time...

Your milage may vary...

Invest in an aquarium heater (sumbersible, around 100 watts) which you place in a jar of water and put in your grow chamber/incubator. [there are teks on this on this site, search around a little] The hot water will warm the air consistently and provide some humidity as well. Heating pads work OK when combined with perlite for fruiting, but I have had bad luck with them as heating for incubation.

At room temperature colonization takes forever, which puts you at risk of greater rates of contamination. Psilocybes are robust so you will probably get some shrooms at room temps, but there is no guarantee. Try your best to give the mycelium the conditions that best encourage growth. $15 now will be well worth it come harvest time.
