cranberry juice? wheres the vodka!

so ive seen a few posts about soaking your spent cakes in cranberry juice to extract the goodies....

but why not use vodka? Isint EtOh better for extracting than cranberry juice?!?
plus wouldnt cranberry juice rot after a while?

if you got a bottle of vodka you could fill a large jar with it, crumble and soak your spent mycellum, then strain all the vodka out.... do this for a few months, and after a while you would have some potent ass vodka....
and u would be getting the most out of your mycelium

Believe me, it's far easier just to grow bulk mushrooms than pissing about with extracting fractions of trips from spent cakes.

i know i know, but ya gotta start somewhere...
gonna be a while till i try anything bulk.....
i just birthed my 1st few cakes the other day....
i PCed some birdseed tonight, gonna try to innoculate a quart of that tommorw.. see how that goes....

I've tried extracting psilocybin from cakes, and trust me, it's not worth the hastle. All you get is a stomach ache and shit tasting juice, that you will barely trip from. :frown:

ihaven't drank mycelium juice (wouldn't care to either), that is one of the reason i grow shrooms, so i don't have to extract shit from shit that tastes like, well, shit

Yes, im beginning to think its the cranberry juice thats the problem....
if you used VODKA you would extract MOST if not ALL of the psilocyn.... and it wouldnt taste like shit cuz its vodka.....
i have no idea wtf the person was thinking when they said to use cranberry juice... Et0H is what extracts...
cranberry juice dont do shit...
no wonder noone trips from it......

The reason is because cranberry juice  contains both citric and tanic acid.  Alkaloids extract well in an acid environment (it turns them into alkaloid salts).  Vodka works alright too but even better if there is an acid to help isolate the goodies out of the mushrooms.  The good thing is, these salts are very stable and do not degrade as fast as if they were fresh.  This means that both psyclobin and psylocibin are going to be present when you ingest.  Im working on a Tek that involves using an acid and alcohol to extract alkaloids from fresh mushies.  This should be more potent then eating dried mushies and tastier then eating fresh ones. 

My only concern is:  why extract the feable amount of magic from the colonized cake when you just wait a couple of weeks and you have full grown mushrooms that are much more potent.  This would be like buying a car each time you want to go to the store.... not very effecient.  Why not use the car to take a bunch of trips, heck you may even want to drive to Disneyland... :smile:  In other words, dont waste a cake on a level 2 trip, let it produce a few fruits and go much further.. :grin:

i belive u misunderstood me, i was talkinga bout extracting alkaloids out of spent cakes....  after they have produced 2-3 flushes and wont produce anymore... then chuck them into an Et0h solution for a while shake, then strain...... blah blah...

your are correct in the fact that alkaloids dont break down in Etoh Solutions, so its a great way to store excess alkaloids....
cuz god knows, theres nothing worse than have all these excess alkaloids lying around the house.....

Lemme know how things work out for you...
im gonna try the vodka expirement with about 30 cakes.... if one becomes contaminated, or after it has produced 3 good flushes, then i will chuck it into the vodka...... i figure after a few months i will have some very intersting vodka...

another method ive been toying with is extracting the alkloids in pure Etoh, then evaporating... leaving behind pure crystals.... Mmmm....

ah, i digress... i havnt even grown anything yet hehehe i just birthed a few cakes in my terrarium for the 1st time the other day... they seem to be quite happy tho... they are starting to get fuzzy in some parts...  yay!
sometimes i get ahead of myself.....
but thats why this hobby is  fun....
so many expirements to try :smile:
