Not really.  Real hip hop is still alive and well, always has been.  Anyone who says otherwise just isn't looking in the right places...

Nas Illmatic has to be in there. Not sure if you can call it hip hop but anyway

Huh?  What would you call it?

Rap.It's lyrics hold just as much relevance as the beats unlike a lot of other hip hop

You're not really making much sense to me...

Since you liked the lyrics and beats equally, it is rap, not hip hop?  Please enlighten me...

Well I just think there can be a difference between the two.Like soulja boy and the like are hip hop. That could never be defined in my books as rap.He can barely string two words together.I see rap as those who are eloquent with words i.e. Nas,Big L,Common Rakim etc.I know it can be hip hop but they're rappers unlike soulja boy who is a hip hop "artist"

Most people view it as the other way around, even though it's really not important.

I think you may be confusing the two terms a bit.  I would call Nas, Big L., Common, Rakim, etc, hip-hop artists, while I would call Soulja Boy rap.  To me, it would almost seem like an insult to the entire culture to call something like Soulja Boy hip hop.  My two cents...

Cypress Hill - Black Sunday

Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle

Quasimoto - The Further Adventures of Lord Quas

Normally I wouldn't ever even consider adding something post 98 to this list, but Lord Quas just fucking blows me away.

I know what you're saying but I've always seen hip hop artists as the ones with decent beats but who don't have decent rhymes to back it up.

I'm more than likely wrong but it makes sense in my eyes.
