Newbie colonising attempt question

Hi there folks
Im a first time grower attempting to grow some P Cubensis and suspecting that I might be making a pigs ear of it lol.
I live in Ireland and its pretty freezing right now, what Im doing in my first attempt at colonization is, Ive put my spore-injected tub into a water-filled tub with an aquarium heater set to 27 degrees, and ive covered it with tinfoil and a blanket to keep it warm in there as my flat is none too warm at times. This is quite insulating and condensation is forming on the tinfoil ceiing of the tub, and i can see some condensation inside the lid of the spore-injected substrate. Is this too humid an environment for mycelium to grow?
Apologies for ths anally retentive post but its been on my mind lol. Ah wel its my first try and Im going to keep on trying if i dont succeed this time!

What do you mean by "spore injected tub" - what did you inoculate exactly?

Hi there J3illy I got a grow strarter kit that came with a small tub filled with vermiculite, I inoculated it in 4 evenly-spaced areas then sellotaped the holes up; the lid of the tub has a white ridged strip which i presume is a wee air filter of some kind. This vermiculite tub I am floating in water at 27 degrees (80 farenheit). It's in a bucket of water which i covered in tinfoil and a blanket to keep the heat in, it's also keeping the condensation in as the tinfoil 'ceiling' has lots of water droplets on it, and the inside of my inoculated tub lid also has these droplets on it. Any thoughts?

I've never heard of such a kit, but if that's what the directions said to do, it should be right. As far as the temp goes - 80 is OK, but that's as high as you wanna go. I'd personally be more comfortable with 75. You'd get the same growth-rate, and have less of a comfortable environment for possible contams - they like it warm.
75 = 24 deg. You're lucky my thermometer also shows celsius.

Youll want a tub in tub incubator. You dont want your grow kit tub in the same tub as the water and heater. Also you want your inoculation holes exposed for gas exchange.
Im not familiar with the grow kits and not sure what kind of filter is used in them, im guessing in a verm layer under the lid. You dont want moisture getting in and making it damp which would allow contaminants to grow through your filter.

Fahrenheit <-> Celsius converter
I use this all the time, as I live in a country where Celsius is used... and most people in Shroomery use Fahrenheit. Although, recently I sometimes catch myself thinking in Fahrenheit...!

Thanks for the reply J3illy The directions never said to float it in water - that was my idea to keep it warm, i've heard of people using aquarium heaters in baths to keep the temperature regular, and modified the idea a bit, as my bathroom is a fridge hehe. I I'll lower the temperature when i get home later

Thanks for the illuminating reply When I get home I'll put my growkit tub into another slightly larger tub, which i'll float in the water, and have the top of the growkit tub poking out through the tinfoil roof to keep the condensed water out! How does that sound
