I build myself a Dehydrator

After I understood I need a better drying method and I can't buy a Dehydrator here (to send in from eBay I need to pay 50$ only shipping ). most agreed that oven is not a good solution and no heat was consensus so I made one by my own. It's not only cheep it's easy and fun
so what you need is
1. plastic screen basket (the red one) 2. plastic basket with out the net but matching the size (white one)
* easy to find in any Home **** store and very cheep here it was less then 5$ both
3. a computer fan 12" a big one I took it from old computer but you can buy it every where or put to small ones, no problem 4. transformer with 12V (only 350mA needed so very small one).
* I used the computer connectors and if you have an old computer you can do it to but you don't need it just connect the red with the red and the black with black.
now the fan go inside the white basket you can do hole in the bottom if you don't have and you can put to small fans if you need.
You can have more then one red screen basket !!! and put it on the top so you can have few layers. I don't think I need more then one.
Hope it will help peace zoro

looks pretty simple and effective. is the fan pushing air up or pulling it down? You could add another red-basket full of desiccant to possibly improve performance

if the fan is to strong and to close to it. wouldn't it blow all the spore and other stuff everywhere? maybe you should make the fan suck air downward and place a napkin or something on top of the red basket then place your stuff on top of the napkin, so everything gets sucked down into the napkin. good idea for a dehydrator though. i'mma use it.

I bought a 5 layers good-as-new dehydrator off of someone at ebay here in Germany. It was only 12.50 Euros plus 6 for shipping. Where do you live that the shipping price is so enormous?

you can choose if you want the fan to push or suck just by turning the transformer (-/+). but it's a big slow fan so it's not so strong. I already bought another red (and yellow ) basket with desiccant so I will try it with or with out desiccant.

your shipping is in Germany but I don't have eBay in Israel and it was fan and easy to make it. I heard that it's better to dry it without heating and in the standard dehydrator you need to break the shrooms cap, so here I have some advantage.

Zoro, nice Dehydrator. The simplicity surprises me, it looks very well done. I was going to recommend the desiccant, but it looks like that is already there.
I may have to borrow your design for my own.

Ok, that explains it.

Yes, and I am impressed by the simplicity and can see it being very effective. Kudos on that!

No heat in mine, only warm airflow. And you DON'T need to break the caps off if you skip every second drying layer, which you can.

Why not place a cover over the top of the entire unit to, essentially, recirculate the air and not have to use as much power?
Also, have you attempted drying with it yet? How long did it take?

using a desiccant will only be helpful if you have already dried them pretty well then stick the apparatus into a closed environment (ex. large Tupperware)otherwise it will just suck the ambient humidity.

Thank you all for your inputs, I made some improvements ... First, I made some holes and feets in the lower basket
put the fan back
then I have some more screen basket one green for desiccant and another red more shrooms in the future
and I made some "feet" to the red basket to make room for it and out it on top.
ok thats it peace zoro

ya desiccant will work best in a closed environment because your pulling moisture from the room if its open there's no need for a fan with desiccant

ye, but here the fan air pass the desiccant and then pass the shrooms with dry air ...

Use a window fan and furnace filters for bulk drying. You can make jerky too!

desicant is to slow reacting to dry air out at that rate and would probably stop reacting quicker making it useless
