Making bread?
    #922362 - 10/01/02 12:53 PM (19 years, 21 days ago)

I suddenly have this desire to make some bread, but I've never done it before. I have flour, brown rice flour, sugar, butter, but no yeast. Is this enough to make bread with? I'm pretty sure that bread without yeast is unleavened bread, but I don't know how to make it. Anyone have any good recipies for unleavened bread?

Use bakeing soda and youll get a slight rise to your bread but it will be more like a cross between pizza dough and a cracker..

Yeast is the only way to go.

I used this recipie:
http://bread.allrecipes.com/az/whlwhtbrbrd.asp
It worked out well, 'cept I used brown rice flower instead of wheat.
Why would I have brown rice flower on hand?

Making bread that actually tastes good is extremely difficult without (i) a lot of practice or (ii) a bread machine. My mum tried for ages with no success ( it was always about 70% crust), then she bought a bread machine and now she bakes some of the tastiest bread I've ever tried. With the machine it's a piece of piss: you just mix all the ingredients together, then the machine kneads it for you and then bakes the bitch. But they probably cost a bit.

But definately give it a go. It's delicious if you get it right. Not sure about unleavened bread though; yeast is really cheap anyway and available from any decent store, so I'd probably get some if I were you.

I love bread; making it and the whole process could be related, in some why to growing shrooms. i used to work at a brick oven pizza place.

It was owned by this old hippy feller and he was ALL about bread. He even wrote two books about the subject. Food was great. But, he was kinda a washout due to the fact that he bought the doughs and never made it himself. He kinda sucked at stretching the shit out and cooking it. Everyone knew that he was a Phony....

Supa, naw not really. I am terrible at making bread. But I like it the way blacks love grits.
