 Weird feeling

The other day I was laying down on my bed, completely sober, and I felt weird as fuck. I was wearing pants, so naturally I felt the sensation of the fabric against my leg, but it's like all I felt was the fabric. It felt like I didn't exist, I was simply the feeling of that sensation and nothing else. Hard as hell to explain, and it really felt like I didn't exist. Looking back, is that what it feels like to have no ego whatsoever? If it is, that's amazing that I could breakthrough to that at such a young age, but at the same time I'm not sure if that state of consciousness is a good state to be at in a society that thrives off of ego.
I'd really appreciate some responses, especially if someone can relate to this.

I wouldn't call it ego death as you were still aware of a sensation, but you're certainly getting close.

Your ego is the conduit through which you communicate with others...it has to stay. If one must have no ego to be enlightened, then only the dead are truly so. Even people with multiple personality disorder have ego...just they have many of them.

You'll find that the definitions of ego, consciousness, and mind are all very linguistically murky. When used in the term "ego death", ego refers to the sense of I, or that fundamental self-identity that demarcates what is you and what is not you. Even the use of the word I implies the existence of the ego; under ego death there is no I, there is only everything (the observer has merged with the observed).
The mind is a much more general concept, and includes such things as perception, memory, and cognition. The ego is a part of this, but not an essential one.

Intelligence is very different from wisdom... I'd bet there are many teachers and professors with more book knowledge than any of us on the Shroomery, but life experience and wisdom gleaned from psychedelic experiences is something that can't be learned via flipping through dusty tomes.
