Psilocybe cyanescens? mushrooms Found in an Orchard
    #9341670 - 12/01/08 01:03 AM (15 years, 3 months ago)

I live in california, bakersfield, kern county.

Hi, I do not know much about this species I have pictures can someone help identify them. they seem to have the properties of Psilocybe cyanescens. The only thing is they don't bruise that I know of.

I have pinched them and stuff and the stems don't turn blue at all.
I read a thing online and it said something about the first flush of them don't really bruise.

Here are spore print pics-

psathyrella or coprinus sp. perhaps. Most likely coprinus. (based on the one with the splitting, hollow stipe) But definitely NOT cyanescens.

BTW, the first pic is useless for identifying fungi.
But how could you resist posting a photo that makes you look too cool for school.?
(actually, its not that bad a composition).

Anyway, read on how to post a proper ID. You can then almost come to your own conclusion that they are no where near cyans. No matter how much you WANT them to be Cyans. You are bound to learn something new if you put some time into it.

So they are no good. also I compared them to the strains you mentioned and they do not resemble them too much. I thought they could be deadly.
so had to post. I could post the pictures from the fruiting areas tomorrow.

p.s. A freind had eaten some before I posted. I warned him. but not poison?

They don't look poisonous, but there is also not enough information to determine that 100%.
Your friend is without a doubt an idiot, and with a different mushroom could be in serious danger. please don't let people do that shit.

Then again, darwin did say...

I was there with zonedev when we found these shrooms, no I am not the friend that ate them, but I would like to supply more information

The 4 shrooms on the left of this picture look just like the young shrooms we found: http://www.mykoweb.com/CAF/species/Psilocybe_coprophila.html

Habitat: Almond Orchard - Found growing in colonies near tries, often in green moss.

Gills: The gills go from tan to brownish grey, they have large ones, medium, and small ones.

Stem: Whitish, pretty fragile, looks silky, not very tall.

Cap: Shinny carmel brown which fades to yellowish white near the edges. Older ones become plain brown in the center and white at the edges and the cap becomes flat then becomes wavy, and not shinny.

Spore print color: purplish

Bruising: No bruising at all.

Location: Picked in southern california.

Most of the pictures he posted are of the withered and older shrooms. BTW these orchards are well watered and are dark.

I am sure they are not Coprinellus micaceus nor psathyrella.
I have compared them to honey mushrooms but they don't look too much like them. I am still not sure.

I have found a patch of psathyrella in my backyard this morning.

They are a species of Psathyrella.  The fragile, splitting white stem is pretty distinctive.

Do a search for Psathyrella candolleana.
