Birdseed jar innoc.????

This is probably a stupid question, but anyway is it possible to innoculate a birdseed jar with a piece of sterile mushroom tissue? If not can you soak a piece of pf cake in 3% h2o2 and innoculate this way?

2) yes, that's a variation on the grain-to-grain transfer.

It's more common to grow out a piece of mushroom tissue on agar, then transfer a wedge of agar to a jar of birdseed/rye

You can use a tissue sample on agar , then do a transfer from that to grain . Cloning . :cool:

couldnt you just throw a chunk of myc. into the jar of birdseed? from a pf cake?
or take a few grains from another grain jar and just toss it into your uncolonized jar?

why bother with agar?

That's what my friend wanted to do, clone. He doesn't have agar and he was trying to find out if that step could be skipped. Oh well maybe he will try it sometime for the hell of it.

You can clone by putting a chunk of stem in honey water (sterile)

Have not read much on this honey method , have heard it mentioned a few times .

Regarding ........ for the hell of it ................ I agree with other coments that it would rot in jar before producing a strong colony . :frown:

Cloning is best done in a culture dish .
