Couple Quick Monotub Questions For The Experts

Hey all a friend of a friend of mine is putting together some monotubs and have a few quick questions for the experts.
1) For the air exchange filters is tyvek a suitable replacement for polyfill? My instincts tell me yes and I've seen it used a couple times but I wanted to hear first hand.
2) The montotubs are 24 x 16 x 16.5 in and solid colour. My plan was to cover the top with press and seal, as in Faht's bulk tek (http://forums.mycotopia.net/mushroom-grow-logs/30940-faht-makes-bulk-tub-pe.html), and keep the actual tub lid on on top of this during colonization, then removing the tub lid leaving the clear press and seal lid. Is this sufficient light for pinning or do i need to cut a section in the tub lids and insert something clear to allow light? The reason a solid colour tub is being used is for stealth, is this acceptable or do I need clear tubs? I could place foil around the interior of the tubs for reflection if neccesary.
Thanks Stay high

1.) Yes. I would try to use polyfil if you can, but if not yes it will work...
2.) Not real sure so wait on a more definite answer, but I would say the lid on will be fine...And yea you need clear tubs...Cut a section off the top, and then put a piece of plexi glass over it to help it get some light...
You might want to wait until you can grow without steal...You need light.

The tvyek will not allow enough FEA during fc, this is especially true in a monotub. it will allow for GE during colonization though. After full colonization, replace the tvyek with polyfill. If you are going for stealth, put the light on the underside of the bin like this

This is a 6500K LEd light. it produces almost no heat, so it is fine resting against the saran wrap. This is a thick plastic tub, so even when the light is on, it does not make the tub glow. it simply looks like a storage tub.

Tyvek will restrict FAE too much, use polyfill or micropore.

Thanks a lot everyone I've got another couple quick questions if you don't mind.
1) I was looking for straw and a pet store I found "Living World Meadow Hay", it consists of Fescus (Creeping Red and Tall) Timothy, Brome, Orchard, Reed canary, Ryegrass, and Blue grass. Is this suitable as straw? I'm about to head to a nursery so any info would be helpful. It was the bag that looked the most like actual yellow straw and least like buds.
2) I have a number of 1 quart rye jars that are 90% colonized and finishing slow, as well as releasing a lot of myc piss. Can I use these as spawn and simply remove any uncolonized pieces, only spawning the fully colonized grain and discarding anything else?
Thanks Stay free

First off, hay and straw are two separate things. Ask the nursery for a bale of wheat straw. It will only be like 3 dollars. Just wait to the jars are fully colonized.
please do not let RR catch you using the term mycelium piss(he finds it vulgar and wrong). There is no such thing. It is called metabolites. that means your mycelium is fighting off bacteria and your temps are likely too high. you will for sure want to wait on those jars, just in case they head south. No point in ruining a whole mono-tub grow with bad spawn. Either the contams will win, or the mycelium will. Chances are if you spawn now, you are done for. What temp are you incubating at???

if you wanted to, you could just leave the straw out, or substitute with coir.

Also make sure you chop the straw up fine, you don't want anything longer than three inches in there. If you have trouble measuring the three inches, just unzip and look down

Went to a garden got a big bale of wheat straw and a couple 30 litre bags of Moo Poo composted cow manure to combine with verm. I've got some extra BRF laying around if that has any value as an additive to bulk substrate prior to pasteurization.

seriously though, make sure you shred the straw. Do not use BRF in your bulk substrate. BRF needs sterilized not pasteurized. This is the same reason you would not want to put uncolonized grain into your bulk sub. It would likely contaminate. And since you should never sterilize a bulk substrate that only leaves one option, not to include it. you will be pasteurizing right?

im sure that was no shit talking, i viewed it as a joke buddy. the only way you can use grain in a bulk substrate :is if it is being sterilized in a mycobag\inoculated with lc and not opened till full colonization..
