Over cooked it. I do birdseed/millet for 30-45 minutes and its fine. I think and hour and a half is completely overkill. If you followed the tek step by step you shouldnt have to worry about it being to wet or dry

Yeah you most likely over cooked it.

And like the above post mentioned: 45 minutes is enough. 1 1/2 hours is overkill...

You should be able to shake it well after it comes out of the PC as well.

Birdseed prep from the FAQ.

Quart jar recipe:
250 ml birdseed
130 ml water
1 gram gypsum (optional)

Pint jar:
140 ml birdseed
80 ml water
1 knife tip of gypsum (optional)

I made up some Pint jars of millet last night.
Pressure cooked them for 1 hour....at 15 psi.
Let the pressure cooker cool down for a little over an hour.
Shook the jars after pulling them out.

I used a 60cc syringe to measure the water....since my 250mL Graduated Cylinder is still on its way.
Used 80cc of water....instead of 80 ml.

They turned out perfect.

Ego noticed that red millet changed a "little" darker after cooking but not much , white millet only very slight hue difference . If you turned dark you burnt it .
Ego did similar recipe as Roadkill except in half pint jars , innoced with agar, used autoclave @250*F 15psi for 45min .
Had great results so far .
Good Luck

right, because cc stands for cubic centimeter, the volumetric equivalent of a mililiter.

If i get any colored millet or birdseed i'll soak it for a day or two and it washes off the color. I find when i dont rinise it and i cook it, it turns all funny colors. And i didnt like it, it wasnt a problem, just made it ugly.  :smirk:

Red poroso is just that red , it is not "colored ". I buy my grain from a feed supply company , they do not use added vits , colors etc....... bird lovers want unadulterated seed for their exotics . So if color fades it is just that "added color" .

I paid 69 cents a pound for white millet , 79 cents for red millet , and $2.79 for a six pound bag of milo . I paid like 7.75$ for 12 pounds of seed , use half pint jars .
So should last for awhile . Hell Bert E Bird can have it if it gets stale (cockatiel) !
Quite a savings compared to 3$ for what a two pound bag ? And I know is not loaded with a bunch of additives that I must wash away .
