LSD in Warfare

People regularly point this out as unethical and a technique that shouldn't be used. I gotta disagree really, imagine if all the soldiers on both sides suddenly started tripping out. Orders would no longer be followed and it would bring the collapse of both armies as they would no longer want to fight each other. I bet this would apply when the soldiers came down aswell. It would save multiple lives.
I think the above is the real reason it never got used as a tool of war. Just incase god forbid it stopped the war all together.

You're not the first to think of this. Look into Project MKULTRA. Pretty disturbing stuff.

it would be pretty hard to get soldiers to ingest it in battle and the consequences would be unpractical.

I think he meant against the enemy.
Just spray a 100ug/ml solution on the enemy troops. No need to get them to eat anything.

Chemical warfare is difficult to wage. Putting the dosage on target would be very difficult, a change in the wind and its on your own troops and not the enemy.

peace keepers should have lots of lsd at the ready
-------------------- "If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution - then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise." - Aldous Huxley GIVE ME OPIATES OR GIVE ME DEATH

In my opinion, the most effective way to utilize LSD for sinister purposes would be as a brainwashing tool. Under the influence of LSD, especially if the subject is unaware that he has been given the drug, one becomes extremely susceptible to influence (see: Patty Hearst). The tendency to internalize ideas is also elevated to a great degree.
I hypothesize that with time and enough LSD, one could permanently restructure the identity and beliefs of another person. Charles Manson was able to do this to a degree, albeit inadvertently.

I've always thought that intoxicating unknowing soldiers with LSD would be a terrible idea. These are people who have seen, maybe done, all kinds of horrible things, I don't think the outcome would be helpful in any way, these people have guns.
They're researching a way to make soldiers extremely attracted to each other, so much so that they could no longer fight.

LSD does not create super soldiers, which the CIA discovered a long time ago. Which is a big reason why its illegal. We can't have free-thinkers just running around, all willy nilly.

It was based on experiments the military conducted with BZ, an anticholinergic similar to atropine (datura) but with a much higher toxicity threshold.
Apparently causes vivid hallucinations, severe discoordination, all that good datura stuff for three days upward.
It was considered as an incapacitating agent, unlike in the film.

If you watch the credits of Jacob's Ladder, they mention that the film was partly inspired by BZ.

The CIA continued to test it after it was made illegal, If I remember right they took it down to Mexico gave it to hookers then the hookers would dose their customers(without telling them of course) while CIA agents would watch through a two way mirror.

I remember reading that the CIA bought what was then the world supply of LSD from Sandoz Laboratories. I think it was like 20 kg. I wonder what they did with it all? Even after all the tests that we know about, there should have been plenty left over.

I'm so down. We can't loose with a plan like that. I say we go with our gut instinct and only rely on facts as necessary. If we take enough lsd we can tune in and hone in on the exact location. That much lsd in one place has got to submit some kind of psychedelic signal.
We will need some walkie-talkies and shovels.
