FH
by far, lophophora PWNS trichocereus in the mesc department...
amberica: a 2% trichocereus is considered superior and they are not common, where as lophophora williamsii easily achieves 4% or more as standard...
(yeah that came off the top of my head so it might be a bit out)
Shultze (?) Stated that dried T. Pachanoi contained 2% Mescaline in his book , Plants of the Gods.
some do, some don't. consistency is the problem.

I've noticed that when it starts to dry they turn a reddish color.
Is that alkaloids reacting to air?

lwheidt said: Hello, I am sure many people will read this post and think I am an idiot for even trying to find Peyote in Texas, and they will be right. I like many others assumed that Peyote in Texas was easy to find even though everything I read said that Peyote is endangered. Boy was I wrong. This is a warning that is very important DO NOT GO TO TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!
A few weeks ago I drove 1000 miles to South Texas on the night of the election to a location an old hippie had told me to go to find Peyote. 30 years ago this location was peaceful and there was Peyote everywhere. On the way down to South Texas I was pulled over for going 8 miles an hour over the speed limit and my car was searched by your typical asshole redneck Texas cop who had eventually let me go with a warning. This was the first sign that I should have stayed home...
I look like a typical pothead, and in Texas I expected to get searched so I left the pot at home. Later that night I slept in my car and woke up and found a place to park that allowed access to the area described by my friend the hippie. Before the sun came out I was running down a farmers road and then I began looking for Peyote. But, alas the Peyote was not singing to me and everywhere I looked for the next three hours was Peyote free. I saw many rare and cool cacti everywhere but no peyote. This area used to have tons of Peyote 30 years ago, but now there wasnt any that I could find.
I ate lunch in Roma, Texas and then drove north to Mirando City. This entire stretch of road and used to have Peyote near it, but it is now impossible to legally park and get into the fields. The raw uncut south Texas Peyote fields are a thing of the past. This entire stretch of road was fenced with fences as high as 10 feet and there are very serious no trespassing sings everywhere. About 1/3 or so of the Peyote fields showed signs of being root plowed in order to destroy the thornbrush and turn the fields into grass destroying not only the diversity of cactus but of all creatures and plants.
I illegally parked at two different places and looked for Peyote in the thornbrush. If you are wondering why its called thornbrush, its because every plant is protected by thorns and it is guaranteed you will pull about 1,000,000 thorns out of your ass every hour you try to bushwhack through it. At these two locations I again saw a great diversity of cacti but no Peyote.
At Mirando City, I located the residence of Salvador the Peyote harvester, but he wasnt home. I saw his beautiful peyotes harvested for the Native Americans. He has 1000s of perfect Peyote harvested correctly as to encourage the roots to regrow more tops. I have heard rumors from NAC members that this peyote is actually harvested in Mexico and run across the border to the Peyoteros. And given the state of what I saw this seems very likely.
At this point I could have chilled and stayed at a hotel and looked for Peyote the next day, but all I wanted to do was start going home. South Texas is scary. There are police everywhere and no public land. The peyote that was easy to access is gone and the fields are disappearing everyday because of root plows. I drove by one business that root plows in South Texas and I almost bought a gun and shot that asshole, but alas I kept going.
At the checkpoint in Laredo that night my car was throughly searched, and I thanked god and the peyote that I didnt find any peyote or I would still be in Texas awaiting "justice". The next day I was still trying to get the hell out of Texas when I was pulled over for the second time. At 3 o clock of day three I left Texas and I will never return. Texas is dead to me.
In the last few weeks I have acquired some seed grown Peyote from Europe that I plan on growing for as long as I live, and I plan on going to San Lois Potosi in Mexico to look for wild Peyote some time next year. I dont plan on harvesting any wild peyote, but I still have the urge to see the holy plant in the wild.
The people who say not to harvest wild Peyote know what they are talking about. It is way to dangerous to look for Peyote in Texas because of the fences, police, and current border situation, Peyote has been over harvested in areas where it used to be very common, and it is crazy to even try to get Peyote in South Texas. The United States government is doing nothing to protect Peyote, and EVERYONE who cares should buy seeds or plants from Europe etc. in order to protect the species.
There is still plenty of Peyote in Texas, but you are not going to find it without going to great lengths. Most of the cactus, fortunately, is located behind the large fences of the chaparrals, and gaining entry is next too impossible. Some of the ranchers still allow members of the church access for a fee, but to anyone else they would most certainly be denied access. My advice would be to stick to Trichs man. If you simply want the cactus experience, a good pedro or peruvian will not let you down.

well only way i could see a pachnoi coming close to a williamsii would be comparing pach skin tissue to whole dried peyote or pach skin to diffusa. there are many other akaloids/phenethlamines to pay attention to also.
