The first 2 pictures are Psathyrella velutinas... not active, not poisonous. I'm not sure about ediblity... They're all over my yard too.

The second pic... Hrmm... Something about them makes me think Cortinarius. Not active, and not a genus you want to mess around with.

hmmm, try to post one more close up of that purple guy.
im big on lepista nuda. cortinarius mushrooms all have rusty brown prints...and they can kill ya, but im not sure thats what that is.
as for the psathyrella, i feel like that name gets tossed around alot, but cant dispute anything, i know it dont look like any edible i know of, nor any friend of the head.
peace

that is a picture perfect example of a velvety psathyrella. here's a pic from audubon's to illustrate:

Are Psathyrella velutinas the same as honey mushrooms? They look quite similar.

Did you get spore prints on those?

The first ones, given the habitat you described, the cespitose clustering, and the overall scaly appearance suggest Pholiota to me. A spore print will tell us which - Psathyrella (purplish black) or Pholiota (cinnamon or rusty brown).

As for the mushrooms in the third photo, I think viscid has a good point with his guess of Lepista nuda - they do resemble several species of Cortinarius. Again, a spore print will resolve things easily. If it's Lepista it will be pinkish buff, if it's Cortinarius it'll be rusty brown. Note also that Lepista is described in most references as having a strong, pleasant odor (I have found specimens without any significant odor).

None of the nushrooms suggested above are active. Lepista nuda is a choice edible, but be sure it is before trying to eat them.

Here are a few links about Lepista:

The first two are more likely Pholiota.
P. velutina doesn't grow tufted like this.

my tunnel vision limits me to what i recognize as food from previous hunts.
so a lot of those are representative of WORK that i would have to do, which i might resent
(i hate work.....seriously)
and, at the risk of being a dork, i say
try to make some guesses for us.
pretend that you have tried.
it makes me feel better about helping.
i just want to know that you are interested in the mushrooms, and not just interested in drugs.
not that drugs are bad.
anyway, another ting is that, despite your photos being excellent photos (which they are, just look at other posts in this forum)
they are. in some respects, lacking in identification details.
try taking each specimen and photographing the cap from the top, then photographing the underside, up close, so we can see the gills, their color, size, number, and attachment are all crucial.
you are doing a fairly good job, but your upload limit will prevent you from posting the pertinent type of photos UNLESS yopu narrow your selections to those you suspect of being edible or active.
not that we dont want to see all of y0ur mushies.
i consider it to be better than porn. love it.
sorry i cant help with specific id's, none look active to me tho.
is the first one the same as your other purple guys?
come on. read toxicmans reply to your post.
re-read this reply.
learn what it takes to id, then provide us with it, we will help, as has been proven.
jeeez, if your gonna go thru all this trouble, go the next few inches.
pretty mushroom pictures
peace

No problem, I was just wondering what all was growing around here. No, the new purple mushrooms looked a bit different than the first on. I'm working on the better pics, I just posted those as soon as I got back to the house. Also the brownish mushroom that kinda looks like a potatoe has an orangish underside that is like a honeycomb design instead of gills. I'll get the pic here in a minute...and what is my upload limit?

OK, looking at the big post with the purple one at the top.

The purple one is very interesting. I definitely want to see the underside of the cap. If you can get the spore print color that would be great. This one is the most interesting specimen out of these (at least to me).

The next ones look similar to Psathyrella candolleana.

The white one in your hand is a Lepiota. To ID it to species you will need to get a spore print first. Then cut the entire mushroom in half vertically and watch the inside of the cap and stem (they may change differently, so watch both) for color changes (to colors other than white).

The brown one in your hand looks like Psathyrella velutina. The detail photo and spore print later in the thread seem to confirm this.

The next one, with the lobed cap, which you also showed the underside of elsewhere is similar to Suillus granulatus. To verify ID on this one we need to see the stem closely in detail.

The bright yellow-orange one is pretty, but we need to see the underside and how it attaches to the wood for an ID.

The next group, with the conspicuously hygrophanous, zoned cap we'll need to see the underside to ID.

The last photo, with the conic, striated caps resembles Mycena inclinata, but we need to see the underside to verify (and to get to the exact species we'll have to use a microscope).

Happy Mushrooming!

Wow, thanks for all the help you guys, you rock! Toxic, I have one more pic of the purple one of the gills, but no spore print because I threw it away, but I can get one tomorrow if you want...

Yes, if you could get a spore print that would be great. If it turns out rusty brown we won't be able to get to species, but most other colors we should be able to.
