Hello wonderful mushroom community - Questions - I have been doing this casing thing for over a year now. - I use horse poo and case with coco -

The question is how do I stop the edges from pulling away from the sides during 2nd and 3rd flushes? - I mist once a day - I fan 4 to 5 times a day.

Also, what is the correct procedure for pasturizing already prepared coco - coir?

The pulling away from the sides is from the forming fruitbodies using the moisture from the casing and substrate. After a flush, re-apply casing material to the sides and patch any areas that pulled out during harvest. :grin:

Pasteurization: 160-170 Deg F for 30-45 min.

I don't pasteurize in the microwave. Wouldn't be able to keep that temp. Easiest way is to pick up a candy thermometer and use a large pan of water on the stove. If you want to sterilize your casing, I find that soaking it to capacity and microwaving for 8-10 minutes works well.

Also the amount of substrate dimimishes over time. Read
