mini shotgun fc

I searched around but couldnt find an answer for this question. Say I want to make a mini shotgun fc say about 7 1/2 inches high for a mini casing, how much perlite will I have to use in there? Is 2 inches good enough or do I still need to have 4 inches for good humidity in there.

A "casing" is the layer on the top of a substrate, and it provides all of the necessary relative humidity mushrooms need to grow. Perlite is useless in this case.

I see, should I still put all the holes in the chamber? However this is going to be a mini casing and I have read that the bigger casings provide enough humidity for themselves should I just use a small layer of perlite anyway to be sure?

I am sure you could experiment with a little perlite chamber and manage to fruit some mushrooms, but why? Going with a decent sized tub, that has a good 5inches of perlite will do you good.
I've been doing two 6quart trays in a 36gallon tub with great results; a 36gallon tub really isn't very large. I am switching to a larger tub that will hold three trays though me thinks. Best of luck! ~Pixie~

This "shotgun" fruiting chamber is new to me, so you'll have to wait for someone with more information regarding them.

You're probably looking more for a 'mini mono tub'.

See most of the growing isn't being done at my house so I am just keeping a little side project here at my place to keep me busy and the only place I can hide it is in my bass amp lol so thats why I'm limited on space. I'm going to have one mini casing exactly the same size as this guys http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/9163482/an/0/page/0 anyone have any ideas what I can do for only a 8 inch tall space? There is unlimited length and width the height is just the problem.

Again, a "casing" is only the top layer. Refer to it as a tray, unless you're specifically talking about the casing layer.

It's all good, just trying to break a bad habit. A lot of n00bs do it, calling basically anything a casing, and it annoys some of the more experienced growers.

all the holes in the world will be useless if your amp has a bottom or sides that don't let c02 escape and fresh air in through the top. My Amp is really small so i know it would never be enough to do even cakes in, though your's may be larger, 4-5inches of height will be tray with 3 inches of grow room, is very tight, plus you need to setup a fc that can fit perfectly to maximize space. aka find a new area, like a dresser with floor/back panel removed/closet.

Its going to be on its side so the bottom has holes and the top is only covered with a cloth mesh because I took the speaker out so there is plenty of air exchange in there and I already took into account the extra space I need and whats left is the 7 1/2 inches of space, and I did find an fc that fits perfectly into it.
Basically what I want to know is will the small tray be enough to humidify a small fc?

A casing layer is a non nuitritious layer that provides a microclimate benificial for pinning and as a moisture reserve. It is not a substitute for growing in high rh. You still need high humiidity wwether doing cakes or cased substrates. Caased substrates r just more tolerent of swigss in humdity.
Stealth grow in bass amp sounds iffy. Hiding from parents.

Hmm well this is what RR said in another post..
"If you're doing cased substrates in a terrarium, perlite usually isn't required. The cased trays will evaporate enough moisture to give the humidity you want." that thread can be found here
So looks like I'll keep the humidity high until pinning then I'll just take the perlite out since from what I've read pins don't like too high of a humidity. I'll let you guys know how this first grow goes!
