Roaring Silence

When I was about 8 years old, the silence grew so loud that I started to go mad. I turned on the TV, banged on the piano and turned on the vacuum cleaner to break up the montonous drone to no avail. I went insane for a short time (hours). Doctors had no explanantion.
Note: this is not to be confused with tinnitus.
Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

roaring silence doesn't work, logically
if you mean it to be ironic, ok then, but otherwise...no

i dont think he is talking about a logical thought that he had for all this time but a sensation of discomfort (roaringly) at a monotonous state of being (silence)

have you ever had your head completely emptied except for one repetitive noise? I mean literally? When I experienced that I think I must have gone mad.

Makes sense, we all do this everyday in so many areas of our lives
The silence is like death to our busy minds
Ive heard lots of cases of people trying to teach their kids meditation & the kids going a bit nuts like you described, or even cases of kids having intense divine experience but not having any guidance of whats going on so the first reaction is fear, cause nobodys really told them about it, cause nobody really can say anything about it, its a deeply intimate experience thats indescribable
Yes OC you are the Buddha

Divine experiences are disturbing, the most disturbing
I brought up divine experience because silence is one of the closest descriptions of the deepest core of reality, which at times can be completely unbearable to face
Sometimes it feels like imminent death, our minds are trained to do anything to try & cover it up...
Maybe the word divine experience is off putting, maybe experience of conscious death, experience off the deepest state of mind sounds better
I cant see anything else that could say what happened, unless as a baby you were left with some residual impression of silence that brought fear...being alone or something?

Yeah, the first time I REALLY got stoned. At first I was way confused and tried to break free but after awhile I just laid down and gave in, pretty intriguing experience.
On a side note, did anyone else like closing their eyes and pushing on the back of your eyelids until you see crazy morphing patterns? I use to love doing that as a kid.

not in the traditional sense where one has racing thoughts and rapid breathing and heart beat, I think I know what OC is talking about, just a feeling that you're going to be suffocated by silence. I wouldn't think its all too uncommon.

yeah, it was on a high dose of the cleanest acid i've ever had. i was smoking copious amounts of potent cannabis on the comeup and my mind became completely blank. couldn't remember my name, nothing. this was quite some years back, but i do remember a high pitch ringing noise. after that i curled up in the fetal position and got sucked into myself... felt like eternity. after being sucked in (like zooming into a mandelbrot fractal) for a few hours, i sort of came out the other side stuck "out of body", yet in it at the same time. this lasted another 8 hours or so. most intense and life-changing experience of my life. i've had similar, but not to that intensity nor extent.
hate to go off about my experiences, but silence can be some serious shit!

As I had a few panic attacks much later in life, I would say they were qualitatively different for me. A panic attack is more of an emotional overload whereas the other was a complete break with ordinary reality.

I live with low grade panic. Low grade depression and high grade octane.

Do you have any more details as to the exact experience? What was going through your mind at the time?

It is like trying to describe a psychedelic experience.
I was overwhelmed by the 'sameness' of the 'sound' and 'lost it'.

Maybe it was not the 'sameness' of the sound, but was the 'oneness' of the sound....

This is some deep shit. I can relate to that feeling but I still don't know whether it is the feeling of life, or of death.
