You definitely have some species of Panaeolus, though I'm not sure whether any are P. subbalteatus (=P. cinctulus).  Some of the top prints look a bit brown but it is really hard to tell with the (poor) lighting.

Luckily, no species of Panaeolus are poisonous.  Though eating large quantities of some might cause GI upset (or vomiting or diarhea).

As I suspected, those are Panaeolus fimicola.  I can verify it with microscopy if he is interested.  For one thing, it is their season.

It could be, but with macroscopic variation within a species and many very similar looking species, I would stop short and just call it Panaeolus sp.:ohwell:

Yup, they might be.  But you will need a lot more to feel the effects.

you shouldn't dry them -in- something. I have doubts as to there edibility right now. You should have left them spread out on paper under or beside a fan at least.

when stored without moving air there's nowhere for that 90% water to go as fast so it takes longer for the mushrooms to dry and therefore provides more opportunities for rotting to occur.

Probably should have done your homework on that one.

just smell them first and get them out of that bag, I'm guessing they aren't entirely dry yet. When they're fully dry they should snap like crackers.

And I kind of doubt they're active anyway, it's not really sub season.
