Taylor 1458 not functioning properly?
    #9302580 - 11/24/08 08:31 AM (15 years, 2 months ago)

Has anyone had any problems with a Taylor 1458 not functioning properly??  I cant say if mine is or not, but I have a suspicion that it might not be but I havent done any tests yet.

The first thing that seemed a bit odd was when I first opened it up, the remote sensor and the base were sitting right next to eachother, and were displaying a 5 degree celcius temp difference.  When I have it in my fruiting chamber (for cakes) that has a thick layer of perlite on the bottom (that is misted multiple times a day) the humidity only ever goes up to 94% max, usually more like 91%.

How long should it take a hygrometer to sense a difference in humidity?  Cause when I took it out of the fruiting chamber and left it out accidentally, I checked it about an hour or more later, and the humidity reading on it still hadnt gone down!

If anyone has any input on this, I would appreciate it!

Its digital. Thats whats wrong.

We've been recomending against digital hygrometers for a reason.

Most are not designed for use in high humidity. And even if they are, there inacurate.

I had a digital hygrometer with external sensor. It never read above 96% even when rapped in a damp towel for 1 hour.
