Its about damn time... First I took a chance with my brf substrate because the temp got way too hot. They stopped growing in the jars at about 90-95%. Instead of throwing them out, I threw them in a container and cased them with this::
About 2 weeks later I thought I had some cobweb contam, and after posting here and talking to Shroomy1 I got the feeling it wasn't and I let it sit in the fc for a while longer. Yesterday I woke up to a shit ton of little pins all over, and today they started growing a tad more. The substrate is 2 1/2 pints and a full pint jar. A total of 3 pints. This is what I saw today::
I have done brf cakes before. both 1/2 pint and 4oz jars. The outcome was very weak. I got apx 2grams dry. A total of 2 1/2pints and 4 4oz jars. This is very weak, but again...I was lucky to get what I had cuz I thought that I had killed them with the heat and put them in the FC just as a "ah lets see if anything grows"
I will update this with more pics as they grow, and the wet/dry weight.
So the point of this long winded post is that, even if you think you fucked up... just wait and see. You'll never know unless you give it time. Also, I think I am done with cakes. I will be casing from now on. I dont even know if that is the correct "term" but I will be casing my substrate instead of putting the cakes in the fc.
Rock on guys!!!

haha you and me both man... I ate the little bit that came off the (saved) cakes... I made some peanut butter cookies and wow... lemme tell you. Awesome time. I think Shroomy1 posted the recipe for them. I couldn't even tell there was mushie goodness in them. Golden Teachers is what they were, and phenomenal. I hope for many more good times.

So I woke up this morning to find these beautiful babies growing...
I wonder why my mushies are so 'thin' and 'small'.... any ideas? Also, if you look closely you can see this brown line going up the stalk of a few mushies... does anyone know what that is? These are GT.

how thick is the substrate? if it is thin that will make the fruits smaller.

Ok, so I harvested my tray this morning...woot woot... much better then doing the cakes. Although all this was, was a crushed up couple of cakes. From now on, I will be doing this method.
Here are some pics before harvesting::
And then after harvesting ::
If your bored, try to guess the wet weight. I would offer a spore print, but most of these fruits are pretty small. I'd say small to med size. However just for fun, try to guess the wet weight.
Thanks to all you nerds who helped me get this going. haha its awesome.

sometimes the size is in direct correlation with the amount of mushrooms that fruited. ive found that the less the shrooms the bigger the fruits got. and the more fruits the smaller they got. its all a battle for nutrients.
looks like a beautiful pinset btw. and for GT they are a little small. but you can always improve on that.
i would guess 72 grams wet for that first flush.
**edit**
how deep was your substrate? and what did you spawn those cakes too?

What does that mean??
And the substrate wasnt too deep... it was like 2 1/2 pint cakes and a full pint jar. I spawned to the stuff shown in the first post, its like a potting soil with alot of stuff in it.

congrats man, thats a decent lookin harvest ya got, i also started using BRF cakes and was dissapointed with the yield so decided to just make BRF cakes and crumble them up and case them it works awesome this is the way im doing it from now on, unless i experiment a lil more and find a way that yields even more lol, but untill then, im crumbling my BRF cakes and casing them

Yep, thats exactly what I am doing from now on as well... The cakes I didnt really get much from them, plus I like how quick they grow when spawned... I didnt do much reading on the 'spawn' and 'casing' stuff... just what I've read from here and there on this board. So I thought i'd give it a shot... Now that is the road I am going, I want to read more and get my terminology right, cuz I feel like an asshole when I say "cased" and I dont know exactly what it means... lol anyways, yes... Its easy to do, and just takes a few more days. And I got a bunch more. Although, Now I just have to figure out how the hell to get them to grow a little bit fatter. These are some sad ass dry shrooms.
However, Its all good cuz I am gonna grind them all up to a powder and put them into capsules.
