Sclerotia jars...

Well tonight my squirrel checked his jars that he has been keeping hid in some tree. As he called me over I could not help but notice him laughing his ass off, anyway he used quart jars, with the regular band and filter discs. What was it he was laughing so hard at? It seems that somehow or another the mycelium made its way past the filter and he has little tufts of mycelium growing on top of the filter on the outside of the jar. I think this will be a nice way for him to get his agar culture now, instead of waiting to harvest the stones.
I will edit in pics after his agar gels up.

if it has grown outside the filter then it is not sterile anymore. unless you are growing in a glove box or something. i think contams will be able to pass through the filter through the mycelium since it is moist. filter discs are really for airborne contams which are not wet. i would advise rubbing the filter disc with some bleach/lysol tho sterilise it. it happened to me before and i tried 95% alcohol but it didnt kill it

I agree w/ blackout. It is likely the mycelium growing on the outside of the filter is not sterile.

I had a pin grow on the outside of a Tyvek filter a few mo's ago.

I wiped the filters with alcohol. Here are the petri dishes after a couple days.
