ok i have had my jars in an incubater for three days and have nothing i didnt think they had contams but i opened em up and smelled inside and they were all bitter smelling but theres no visibile sign of contamination
what should i do? :frown:

Three days is not long to wait. Sometimes there are no signs of growth for 2 weeks or even more. Now that you've opened the jars, it is even more likely that they have become contaminated, even if they weren't origianlly.

The first thing you should do is go to walmart and buy an extra large bag of patients. You opened the jars after three days? I've had jars that haven't germinated for weeks. But anyways, If your jars smell bitter then you probably do have contams. You can leave them to see what happens, or you could just cook up another batch, make sure you sterilize properly. actually it was 10 days
only the last 3 were in the incubater after i got some advice from this forum to warm them up
whats the best way to sterize a jare without i persure cooker (i boiled em all with the subtrate in them)

I've only boiled so far, and I've gotten it up to about a 85% success rate. Just boil for longer than you would PC, I boil my jars for about an hour.

The best way to sterilize jars without a PC is to follow the PF Tek .

i only boiled for 40 minutes with the lids tight (i read that ball jars you can have a tight lid on)
now i got holes in all my jars should i leave them loos in the boil or tight with the hole uncoverd

I leave my lids tight, holes open, with foil over the jar.

Yeah, just like Sts said, I do mine tight, with foil over the holes. Oh yeah if you didn't already, put a level of strait verm on top of the substrate. This forms a barrier that contamination has a hard tme getting to the substrate.

wow this forum works fast
i used the dry layer on top
i washed 3 jares with half water half bleach then water and antibacterial soap then twice with plan water (damn im theral) they antiseptics wont cause a prob with my fungis will it? ive only got a little left in my syringe
i was thinking about boling the jars open to get the rest out is that over doing it?

i still think pirates are cool

As long as you rinse them good with hot water, they'll be cool.  Sometimes this forum works fast, sometimes not, depends who's hanging around.  But you only need to wash your jars out with regular dish soap.  The sterilizing process kills anything lingering. :grin:
