Humidifier for room

What do you guys recommend - cool mist or ultrasonic? It's not for a Martha, just my room since RH is very low. I was reading up on them, and I like the idea of how the wick humidifiers kinda self regulate themselves, based on the RH in the room - but don't you have to change the filters frequently, and they're noisy? Makes me think about the ultrasonic. Opinions?

I just started up a cool mist in my growing area. It brought my RH up to close to 45% but I still seem to have to mist my shotgun style FC several times a day.
I ran this humidifier last year in my bedroom and only needed to change the filter once. As far as noise is concerned it runs pretty quiet.

This is a reply to a post that WAS here, but is now deleted, lol.
I don't have an FC - I have Mycobags. It's getting very cold in my area and RH is in the low 20's. Where my bags are, it's a little warmer, so that's like 15%, which is nuts. Most people here say to run a humidifier just for comfort, but I also wanna make sure my bags aren't losing crazy moisture. SO I just want 1 that's good, not crazy loud, and possibly doesn't need filters I have to buy all the time, although if I have to I will. I'm looking to spend no more than $50. I know they have some for $25, but I bet they suck.

Really, even RH below 20? If so, nice.
I mean, I haven't seen anything to make me worry - bags are still covered in condensation. Once I see some shrooms pop up I'll be relieved.

you dont have to worry. bags are sealed for the most part from the outside world and the filter patch dont allow moisture thru either way, so even if they were in a room of 100% Rh it wouldnt affect the bags

FYI linens and things are going bust so they are selling things at huge discounts. I saw a humidifier for a big room going for 1/2 off, which came to $50. They are the kind with the fan blowing air out the top, if that makes sense?

Fucked if i know... I dont have a hygrometer, but with my local area and the humidity here id say its probably slightly drier in the house than outside. somewhere around a good 10% Rh

Wick types harbour mold and bacterias... also they never get above around 40% and thats totally defendant on temperatures

how good do those 20 gall barell with multiple air bublers and ionic misters suspened in water.... could it keep a 8x8x8 room humidified???i'm gonna build one with 8 air bubblers and ultrasonic mister on a cycle stat repeat timer. not enough/ enough? don't mean to jack your thread. but i need to know. ands its still on topic. right?

Reading about the shit is kinda crazy, just how important temperature is. Where I'm at it's like 20 deg. @ 60% RH. But when that air is heated to 70 deg, even tho the same amt. of moisture is there, the RH is only like 10-15%. That's what's killing my RH.

bubblers at best will raise the room 1% ionic misters will raise the Rh at the floor to 100% and whatever it is now at the ceiling. Ionic/ultrasonic foggers are expensive and break down quickly and easily
20 gallons of water seems like a huge bacterial contamination asking to happen and begging to be released
best bet... forget that idea

they're is a tek i think by ?. anyways you fill a 20 gal barrel with water put in a air bubbler in the bottom to create micro fine water particles in the air. You connect a squirrel cage fan to the lid to force air in. You duct out of the lid to your grow room via PVC. the fan is on constantly to provide Fae every 5/10 min. the air bubbler's inside the barrel provide humidity because the micro fine particles get picked up in the airs stream and pumped into the grow chamber... to keep everything perfect you put in some ultrasonic mister on a timer to provide optimal levels of humidity. preferably cycle stat repeat timer..

I think you're talking about the tek w/ the fogger w/ LED lights, right? You enclose it in a container and pipe the fog to your FC or Martha.

Why are you thinking about humidifiers anyway? You only need them for a Martha - not just an FC, although I've seen it done for FC's. I was just talking about them cuz my RH in my is mad low, but I just have Mycobags.

I'll tell ya man, that's quite a large area to try and maintain 90+ %RH. And unless you seal the entire thing in something like plastic, you will get mold and all sorts of crazy shit on the walls/ceiling. There's really no need to do that. Do some searching on a Martha. They're sold as mini-closets w/ shelves, and enclosed w/ a large plastic wall - they zip up. These give you a nice big area to grow, and it's much more practical and easier to maintain a high %RH. Trying to do an entire ROOM - it's just a bad bad idea.

yeah 6mill 20' by 100' it will be sealed with spray adhesive then stapled securely to the wall{then i'll silicone the seam and all staples.. it will be sterile and air tight! the door entering will be sprayed around the perimeter then plastic staple securely{as to prevent any moisture whatsoever to not get around plastic.{it wont}.. I don't see why not. somebody's gotta do it right. if everybody was a follower. we would never proceed and discover.

You can try it. Im not trying to discourage you... but think of 3 things
1. Humidity/ Fresh air exchange... no fresh air if its sealed air tight/ humidity is gonna prove to be tough 2. Amount of workk to payoff ratio... is it really worth it or necessary to go to those lengths to grow a few lbs of mushrooms? 3. Radar... its gonna be hard to explain why noone's allowed in the room of wonders as my lab has been coined. I had to come right out and tell my Parents what I was doing cause they just couldnt get over the closed door....

the PVC will be ducted towards the shelves and wrapped around room . so the mushies will be bathed in the high humidity air. I don't care about the center of the room. I'll create a micro environment around the mushies. ill probably hang plastic down in front of shelves{staple} to retain humidity on all shelves. the co2 will spill out the bottom of the plastic. and no i'm not him. just some cuntry bumpkin. makin' poo shrooms. huck ya''all

Based on all the useless reading I did on humidifiers, for your case I'd recommend ultrasonic. These are actually spraying a mist into the air, so the RH can go as high as you want it to [or high you're able to]. The other kinds w/ wicks have a limit to high it can theoretically get.
ANyways, they make some BIG ones for like industrial use or what, huge rooms - and I'd look into those. Get something for a huge room, and it should work great in your small room. Then just a little experimenting w/ how long it needs to stay on to maintain and all that, set it up on a time and you'll be good.

OH you're not that guy? well then in this case, I discourage this idea. THat guy was BUILDING an entire room just for this purpose. Why would you need this much room to be growing anyways? A Martha pumping out POUNDS wouldn't be enough for you?

200 bags or 1000lbs of substrate is a lot of work... I mean a shit ton, whole days work every day kind of alot of work.... and that only takes 1 4x6x8 shelf covered end to end with bags...
seems like you just dont believe that, or just dont wanna go that way, but IMO ridding of 200 old or contaminated bags is a whole lit easier and safer than ridding of 200 open to the world old or contaminated casing trays.

No offense to him, but I think he's just a n00b w/ these big ideas and shit. I'm a n00b too, but I've done my homework, and on my 1st grow now. But once he realizes how impractical, better yet impossible this idea is - he'll know why we're saying this. No one just getting into this hobby does something of that magnitude to start out, and probably EVER. A room that big full, like Menace is saying that's 1000+ lbs of substrate, and the work of multiple ppl, for many many hours. Start w/ some bags or a simple shotgun or monotub. Then MAYBE a Martha. What you're thinking right now tho, this is pipe-dreaming.

Well.. If we wanna get into semantics here, I personally started with 4 dozen jars and 6 lc's, then within 1 week made 181 more jars which in a months time became 13 FC's with cakes stacked on each other built into castles and shit, which then evolved into over 200 jars of WBS, a matress bag martha full of casings and the same 13 fc's now used as monotubs with wbs spawned to coir, to the 200 bags i mentioned before, to twice that in all stages of life in a perpetual harvest, and a full time job with overtime worth of work, to now i simply experiment and play with agar and isolation, strain crossing in the works, maybe a species cross attempt in the future.....
ATM I have 10 bags fruiting and colonizing from an LC/spore solution experiment I did to prove a point, j3 you remember that right? some of the spore bags still arent fully colonized, all of the LC bags are...
anyway

I totally agree now about how you were saying that more solution is better. My 1st bags, I did 2 points of 2cc each. The 2nd set, I did 4 points of 1cc each. And I can say without a doubt, the 2cc spots had more colonized area/depth to them. More inoc. points was better overall, but each point had less overall colonization, ya kno?

thats why I stressed the point to you so harshly. 60cc's of LC and dont look back... Im talking 10 day colonization times with no crumble and shake 18 days to pins 23 to first flush harvest 31 to second flush harvest 44 to the 3rd flush harvest day 53 now

O and oust detonates like a stick of dynamite in a sealed glove box..... use nothing but bleach water inside the thing unless you like the way your room smells when all the hair on your upper body is engulfed in flames
simply turn it upside down on the edge of a table...
BAM, instant GB!

After talking to the vendor, and some ppl on here, about the %RH regarding the Mycobags - they said it wasn't gonna be a major problem, as long as the bags were still showing moisture, which they are -- so I didn't end up buying the humidifier.
This is what I find funny tho. I was gonna buy this humidifier on Sunday, when my %RH was down to 20 in here. Well if I'd bought it, obviously the %RH would have gone up. BUT in the past 2 days, since the air is not NEARLY as dry outside now, my %RH is up to nearly 40 again.
So if I DID buy the humidifier, I would have attributed the increase only to that - not realizing that the %RH was actually up nearly 20% on its own.
