What mp3's are really doing
    #929096 -

They are not hurting the record companys and they are not hurting the big superstar muscians.

For myself I rarely download full albums just singles and hard to find music. If i really like something i go out and buy the CD just so i can have the actual CD and the better quailty music.

Most people i talk do also do this. So what this means is all those crappy bands out there with only one good song are goign to actually have to try and make GOOD music for a change
All the record producers instead of making one great song and filling the CD with nothing but crap are actually going to hafve to start making CDs filled with good music!

No longer will we have to waste our money on the one hit wonders or the try hards!

The mp3 will bring about a change for the better!
Music shall once again be something good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

peace

CD sales are down.
even while they were going up in the late 90s they started falling around college campuses.
then that drop extended to all sales.

combine that with the rising prevalence of file sharing software and broadband connections, and you might just get 4.

if it wasn't hurting the riaa, they wouldn't be throwing a shit fit about it

amen to that.

They are obsolete.

It's not our job to limit technology because the RIAA is obsolete.

Imagine if horse buggy manufacturers had the pull that the RIAA had when the automobile was invented.

I think maybe the rising prices for CD's have something to do with declining sales. $18-$20 seems rather much. Maybe not.

I agree. I remember buying cds for 9.99-12.99.

Who the fuck wants to pay 18-20bux for a CD?

No one.

And consider the fact that the bands only get a small portion of the profits from CD sales.

and the artists see very little of the money from cd sales too.

Mp3s and file shareing programs will destroy the record industry.

Sure people are always going to buy Cds in the store but as internet connections get faster and burners get more efficent more and more people are going to find what they want online.

I used to think MP3s would never make a diference, then I got a new computer and cable modem.. Used to take me 2 1/2 hours to download and burn a CD that would only play in half of my CD players. Now I can download 80 minutes worth of music and burn it in just 15 minutes, I can get 3 or 4 CDs for free in one hour, thats the time it takes me to drive to the music store, search around through stuff I dont even know if I like and bring it home to find out if its good or not... And its $60 cheeper..

Its only going to get worse for the RIAA as things get better for us...

To bad the sound quality seriously lacks on MP3's. SHN and another file name I can't think of is the future of online music. I just prefer to buy my CD's off of half.com I like have the art work, liner notes and the entire album in its original format.
