Yes, micropore tape will keep out contams. Be patient. That's the first thing everyone needs to learn to succeed/excel at this hobby. It took me 3 tries just to get something to take to my WBS.

Once i inoculated i noticed that the syringe tore a hole in the tyvek big enough for contams to enter. i put some alcohol on the opening, soaked a coffee filter and alcohol and tied that on top of the opening. will that be enough to keep out contams? other steps to take?

coffee filters are just that, they only filter coffee. no place in mycology at all.

This is true, but if you keep a clean house and not a 100 year old mold fest like 13, Polyfill, Tyvek and even coffee filters give peace of mind where contamination is much less a factor.

other then the two cakes that are growing.. we are redunking them for a couple hours (2-3hrs) but we turned the air pump to run constantly as before it was running 1 hour a day. any tips to try after putting them back in the fruiting chamber?

dude, I answered you that already in the Q & A thread.  you still havent giving them time to recover yet.  if you go dunking them now they will need even more time.  be patient and wait. :waits:

Some things to do while you wait be like :towelie: and get like this :feelshighman:
You could :spankthemonkey: while watching :jennajameson:
You could be in the next sex scandal video :hiltonsex:
Or you could steal this kid's :angryboy: fish!

Also I cannot stress enough... there is no absolute rulebook in regard to all this, I have not been growing long (4 mo) and I have plenty of oddball results.  Knock on wood I have not yet had a failure except (I believe) I got a dead syringe.

Coffee filters don't filter anything but coffee & water. Get micro pore tape, polyfill or synthetic filter disks. Also, a cheap alternative to filter disks, is "Easy Felt" you can find it at your local hobby store/mega store.
PS. DON'T USE COFFEE FILTERS FOR GE!

Like I said, if you have a generally clean space the added protection is somewhat redundant, all it will do is supply peace of mind...

Since I keep my growing space clean I do not worry so much about contams and so far (again knock on wood) it has never been an issue...

Amphibian are the most threatened animals on earth. Humans and frogs share 50% of the same DNA. Up to 200 species have completely disappeared since 1980, and this is NOT normal: amphibians naturally go extinct at a rate of only about one species every 250 years!!! Save the frogs is a nonprofit organization dedicated to amphibian conservation.

What is the volume of spawn in the mad bags?  (I have done a range of volumes in them)

What spawn ratio do you want to use?

These answers added will tell you the total volume you need.

Good luck,

JD

Um, actually I live in the United States and the spores are legal to possess, sell, and buy. It is the chemical psilocybin that is illegal to possess sell or buy. All Spore companies on the net sell to the United States. So therefore there should be no banning for this.

Check your legal references again, buddy. Some states, Utah I think is one, it's illegal to possess cube spores.

save the penis envy for when you got everything down and you know what to expect with cubensis, PE takes longer most of the time, so for an anxious first grow it would suck waiting longer and wondering if its messed up or something but the other 2 are good for anytime growing. :super:
