Be careful, as it will take more than a few days to colonize the
top of the cake and until that happens tilting jars can cause
the verm layer to shift.  (I think that this is why I lost my
first cake to mold)

For me, even with GT spores, it was about two weeks before I felt
comfortable moving my jars around much.

(BTW: my responses are really most useful when they bring out the experts)

Yeah im having that problem too lately. I keep picking up jars to take pics and that verm layer gets moved around and they contam on the top. I stopped taking pics.

I would use the sphagnum moss before I used the stuff with fertilizer in it.  Just mix it with 50% verm, test and raise the Ph to 7.8 with lime and it will work fine.
It probably has been said to you before but cubes do NOT need a casing layer so if you cant get these things and dont want to worry about it you dont have to do it.

Hey, do you think i could turn one of these into a good fruiting chamber?
Im new to this, I just ordered some spores from Ralph, I got the John Allen strain. And instead of using perlite, can i use damp paper towels or something similar?

If it's plastic there shouldn't be a problem, just make it into a shot gun FC, if it's glass however you might have a little trouble with it, but I'm not experienced with glass.

It is plastic. The top of it is kinda like a plastic screen, so i would need to make a different lid. Im not really sure what i could use for that, Plastic bag maybe? Shotgun? Like drill holes in the sides?

Drill holes in the sides (1/4 inch 2 inches apart) and partially cover the lid with plastic wrap, that should do the trick.

Im not to sure if plastic wrap will do the job, but duct tape wont hurt anything, right?

Don't think it would hurt, but it would limit the amount of light it receives, and I think ordinary light bulbs give out too much heat for the mushies.

Incandescent light bulbs are horrible horrible things to use most there energy is giving off as heat and they are totally in the wrong spectrum, Use a 6500K florescent light

Actually light can make a huge difference on the growth of mushrooms

Get a 6500K florescent light

Well good sir, im a bit limited, so thats why i was wondering if indirect sunlight would do the job, or something else that is inexpensive.
