I am a first time grower. I have 12 half pint jars of B+ colonizing (they are about 70% colonized). Now this is gonna sound ridiculous (and it is), but my husband and I had a slight dispute, the jars were tossed in a paper bag, and aggressively hurled into the back of his pick up. Miraculously, only one jar broke and I gathered the rest and put them back on the shelf to finish colonizing. They were quite shaken. Does anyone know if they will be O.K.?

If they don't contam they'll be ok don't worry. The only risk from it is having the dry verm layer disturbed but you should be ok! The mycelium takes a lot more beating than that. When we use grains, we shake at ~25% and then at full colonization. Shaking them real hard and hiting them aginst tires to break up the mycelium. Don't worry!

Hey guys I'm gonna be using grow bags measuring 18" H x 5.5" W x 4" D. and with 1 pound of substrate in them each. How many grams (roughly) of shrooms can I expect per flush if injected with 5cc of spore?

I'm just trying to figure out how many bags I need to do at once to have enough for several trips right off the first flush.
On the other hand. I don't want to end up having like a a kilogram right off the bat.

1 bag will give you enough for you and some friends to have fun a couple of times, do a couple bags in case of any contams that might surprize you. just in case.

Awesome! It's been almost 10 years since I last attempted any growing (technically 8) and I've been really wanting to get back into it. This is just the thread I need.

Man, I can't tell you how much this site has taught me. I went from knowing absolutely NOTHING about growing mushrooms to starting my first project in a matter of days! I got my verm in today. A 24 pound bag cost $24 and the shipping was $30.(Can you believe that?!)But as I've read there is no real replacement for it so I went on ahead and splurged. I want to do everything by the books on my first attempt. Just waiting on my spores to arrive! I can't wait to get some pictures of my progress up and share my experience with you guys. You've already helped me so much! Peace.

I've decided to start growing again after a 5yr hiatus; well truth be told Mother Nature spiked my interest agian. See, it's been raining almost everyday for about 3-4 weeks now here is the Southeast (Atlanta is now the new Seattle), and the fields have been absolutely covered. But that's completely off subject.
I've been researching on the net and [finally] become a member on this site. I now think I can make this work, as my first few attempts had less that desirable results. I was putting in so much work trying to keep conditions perfect, and after contams and poor yields only getting about 25% of what I should have gotten. So to the point, invigorating read, but I do have one suggestion. I see almost no mention of sterilization techniques. While you do mention the pressure cooker; you in no way mention how it should be used. If you intend for this to be guide for beginners I feel that such is vital information.
-------------------- Toxic/Hallucinogenic spores are for microscopy purposes, all posts regarding their cultivation fall under one of three categories: 1) hypothetical scenario 2) complete bullshit 3) complete hypothetical bullshit. Any questions?
