i like casings, even if my tubs are already pinning, it seems to help me a lot personally, because I live somewhere very dry, in high altitude, and its a bit harder to get the humidity right.

I like to get my jiffy mix(basically 50/50+) and moisten it to slightly under field capacity, then crumble it with my hand very finely. I then just kind of sprinkle it on the casing very lightly, I repeat that until i have a little under 1/8in casing layer, then just give it a fan and leave it, dont tamp down the casing or anything, when its fluffy it creates a very humid zone above the substrate, composed of tons of tiny pockets of air and evaporated water trapped in the fluff.

Thats worked for me well, I know cubes can be grown great without a casing, but the casing has helped me get the conditions for pinning just right.

adding a lil perlite will also help fluff it up.
