a couple of supply questions...

where do you guys find millet? i saw it once in another town, guess ill pick some up next time i go by. but do any major food stores carry it?

Some feed stores carry white or red millet. Petco, PetSmart & about any pet store will have a wild bird seed mix, that consists mostly of millet. Major grocery stores almost all carry large bags of millet type bird seed.

I get mine at PetSmart. A 40 pound bag of basic wild bird food -- there is about $9.

LOL, I cheat, a little - :smile:- sometimes.

I prefer white & red millet based bird seed. In part because it is cheaper & since the seed is smaller. When used as spawn, it provides more innoc points.

And, I leave in the empty floater husks & sunflower seeds that comes in any cheap basic wild bird seed mix. As they provide lignin (fiber), that shrooms like. Some peaple say the SF seeds carry or are contam prone. Not if PC'ed properly.

But, at times I have some rye around (from feed stores). If it is around? I sometimes mix in maybe 10 % into the bird seed mix.  Can't hurt. If none is around. I just go with the seed.

I also add some dung/straw water to the soak water. That seems to add more nutes to the moisture the seeds absorb. I get QUICK colonization.

Hey- about the millet. I got about 2 lbs at a health food store, and i really don't prefer that at all. It gets too soggy and you can never tell if the mycilium is colonizing or not....maybe its just me....but i am sticking to rye and vermiculite.

I use White Proso.
I get it at a Pet shop.
Works really good.
