I have come to the conclusion that most, I'd say 99% of people who do shrooms know absolutely dick about it. I know a bunch of people who do shrooms, so since I had some, I was going to try and trip with them. Well, what do you know... every single person (and I literally mean every last one) believes :
A) You only eat the caps. Stems are worthless.
2) They all have stories about shroom hunting. They all involve getting "huge trashcans full" of shrooms.
D) Shrooms just love being heated, cooked, smoked, etc. Let's go boil some tea. Lets smoke the mofos.
17) Shrooms are toxic as hell, man. If there's any black stuff on the caps, it's strychnine or arsenic.
Now, I may not be a veteran psychnaut, but in my experience, every one of these things are dead wrong. First, to make a friend of mine happy, I gave him all caps, and I ate only stems. Tripped like crazy. Second, every shroom hunt I went on (don't do those anymore though, growing is much safer), we found a pisspoor amount of shrooms. Even when I went with people who shroom "all the fucking time". Third, I've tried shroom tea. While it did work, the amound of shrooms needed were at least four times what I would take normally. And last but not least, those are fucking spores on top! FUCK!

Lots of my friends think they know everything about mushrooms and most of it is sooo false. Little did they know i grew in stealth mode for almost 2 years(stopped no do to parania and people figuring out where the mushies where coming from). I would try and tell them the real deal. They thought i was stupid. THey would say caps are soo much more potent then the stems and what not... I printed out some info one time and they wouldnt even read it cuz they "knew" they where right. It really pisses me off some times.
More then people trying to tell me there are signs that say "think its dry now wait till xxxxx". Just cuz they cant score a bag at the time and someone told them this and then they take it up as afact and say they saw it.

its the same as people on this site who still suggest that the veil has some relevance to the alkaloid production of cubensis fruits when there is no evidence to suggest it at all.
Or that differing sporeraces contain the same level of alkaloids when there are clear quantative alkaloid analysis references available to demonstrate otherwise

im irritated when a friend tells me ( cause they now im tha herbalist and the shroomer ) do you know that ... and ... had smoked mushrooms and I usually say this means they dont understand from shrooms and they have wasted them, fools.After that I take a hit from the joint and pass it, until it comes my turn again

Good question. I have done research on every drug I've tried. I've spent hours in the library and I've even purchased a few (expensive) books for my personal collection. I'm not talking about bullshit, I'm talking about the freaking Audubon Society Guide to Mushrooms, and several books written by MD's & PhD's. STILL, I have friends that tell me these bullshit myths about drugs and when I try to tell them what's true, they look at me like I'm crazy. They're like, "Whatever, dude. I know what I'm talking about." They've usually gotten their (mis)information from some dumbass who just keeps perpetuating these myths. It really pisses me off, because I pride myself in being one who tries to be educated about what I put into my body, and still I get idiots trying to tell me myths are facts. My two favorite myths that I hear all the time are, "Acid has strychnine in it. You knew that, right? That's why your back hurts when you do it." and, "Ecstacy has herion in it. Yeah, 99% of the ecstacy you will find has herion in it. You knew that, right?"

Sigh, it is the scurge of the misinformed, and it is these people who will help the so called 'war on drugs' keep going.
