no condensation, humid enuff?
    #926511 - 10/02/02 11:35 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Right, so ive just birthed 3 cakes yesterday, yay!
after a nice 12hr coldshock/dunk i put them in my terrarium....
heres the question....
ive got about 2 in of perlite in there.. nice and saturated, but no standing water...
AND a coolmist pumping in fresh humidified 02 every 2 hours for 20min.....
only problem is, everyone says they have condensation on the sides of their terrarium.. yet i have nothing....
my terrarium isint sealed or anything (regular rubbermaid top with a plexiglass window installed....
but i heard that thats not really an issue....
i figured with the perlite and the coolmist i would have a fuckload of humidity/condensation... but nadda.. nothin....
it smells nice and humid when i lift the lid....
wtf is goin on here....
i have 2 humidity gauges, but apparently everyone says they aint worth shit...

am i just being paranoid?
the cakes seem to be happy... (i just birthed them yesterday so i cant really tell)
is condensation a good judge of humidity?
sorry its my 1st grow and im full of questions and worry.. :P
but thats why this board rocks...
n00bs like me can be reassured by the more expirenced!

btw the temp is about 79F in my room (i heard temp has something to do with it)

thanks,

Condensation does not proove humidity, this occurs when temp and dew points match to extract water molecules from the air and form water droplets ........condensation  . If you have two hygros , what are their readings ? I say somewheres in the middle is the accurate reading .
Good Luck

Eh, the 2 hygros i got blow monkey nutz...
one is a raido crack one (20$)
and the other is a Wall-Fart brand (15$)

the radio crack reads around 90-93% usually, and the wall fart one goes reads "high" (above 97% is high)
but the wallmart one reads high like 2 hours before the radio crack one even gets close to 90%....
im assuming they are both way innacurate....

i think you only need one or the other pertaining to perlite and a cool mist...a cool mist is enuff by itself...with the perlite that would be enuff by itself too.but you would have to fan it..if i was you i would stick with the cool mist and drop the perlite...than you wouldnt have to fan... also humidity can be 90% with out condensation on the walls...its better to not have too much water on the walls because you dont want water dropplets on the cakes..IMO ..good luck with the grow

yea, i went the coolmist only route first, but according to my radio crack hygrometer it said i was only at 90% humidity (this is back when i belived that it was working correctly)
so i went and got some perlite to humidify.....
im using both right now, cuz im lazy and dont want to fan......
and apparently perlite is idoit proof...
perhaps in the future when i get a good hygrometer i can ditch the perlite....

i really dont think its worth it....
my hygrometer is 7+/- above 80% humidity...
the other is 13+/- above 80%....
thats just not enuff accuracy i dont think.....

its probably just fine at normal humidity, but it suxx0rs at high humidity...
