Weird Spore Print Diesintegrates...

OK, so I had a casing that I kinda fucked up on but I figured I would leave it and see what happens. Yesterday, I say nothing except some primordial  knots. I look in there today, and a shroom that looks odd is there. I figure whatever, I dont care. So I cut the cap off and decide to take a spore print. I have made a few spore prints so its not a big deal. I put it on foil and cover with a half pint jar, then 4 hours later all there is is a puddle of nasty black looking stuff and no cap!!! :ooo: So my thought is that it was contaminated or maybe a shroom that was somehow already present in the manure. I am just real confused and wondering if there is any input or if this has happened to any one else?

hahaha maybe some little gnomes or something came and stole the cap, because you have created a new strain that the world isnt yet ready for, or um it got contamed

The cap simply rotted  :frown:.

Better to have a tiny bit of air exchange. Otherwise the moisture in the cap is trapped under the jar & either myc will start growing off the cap -- or it will begin to rot.

yea usually i let some air in after a while but i have never heard of it rotting after only like 4 hours or maybe even less, anyway this sucks but oh well.

I think you`re dealing with a garden variety shroom there possibly a plathyrella.
When I tried to take a print of a plath it also as you say desintegrated into a runny black substance.
