Count Down
    #925882 - 10/02/02 06:23 PM (21 years, 5 months ago)

Well I'm in need of some advice, once again!!

Just pasturized about 3-4 kilo's of manure.. Now it's in a big strainer sort of thing, in the bathrub cooling down. Thing is bed time is coming in about 6-7 hours for me, and I'm wondering if that time will be sufficient to allow the dung to cool down properly?

Last time I spawned I used less dung, let it sit about five hours, but when I went to spawn it was still slightly warm. Of course it still worked, and it's almost colonized now.. But, I'm just being cautious!!

But last time I had less manure, and even then it was still 'warm'.  I'm wondering if I just got lucky... Or what?

I guess I'm just going to try it!!

Six hours sounds good I guess.  If it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out.

Sorry about posting useless questions everyone!

I guess I'm just too damn excited.

Somebody needs to figure out precisely what temps will kill spores.  I'd do some experiments but I'm just gettin started in all this... mabey someday when i have substrate and spores to waste.

Haha yeah, it's not so much spores I'm worried about though, it's mycellium.

Maybe it's a bit more hardy then spores? Or vise versa?

Well, seeing as how spores are meant to survive for a long trip, I would assume that they are more hardy than mycelium, but it would be interesting to see exactly what temp spores die at.

More dung ya do, longer it takes to cool. It is compacted real good, (ex. coir is not, peat is) the more compacted; the more time it will need to release the heat. And the more there is, the more time, etc....

Wring it out good. (unless it already has been) Loosing that warm water will help it cool faster.
As for temp, your body is 98F. Stick yer fingers in it (gloved), if it is hot 2 u, it is above 98F. Wait till it is not warm 2 ya. Or just case otherwise, yer preference.
