Where abouts in Mi are you talking?

I'm near Detroit. I don't notice it too too much.

Well, drinking and driving kinda makes you a magnet.

Don't be a magnet.

I drove from Texas to Michigan with over 100 hydrocodone, 10 hits of LSD, plenty of bud and some other stuff I can't remember.

I'm fucking glad I didn't get pulled over! Probably not the brightest thing i've done, but i made it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the other shit was an OC 80, and a couple xanax. Man, what a fun trip, but damn was it risky.

I'm from northern MI and the cops were pretty intense this summer trying to make drug busts and anything else they can get (not much crime except drunken rednecks around here). But lately its been more chill, where you at man?

Fuck yes,Michigan sucks right now,the economy here has fallen apart completely,so many companies have either moved out of state or just gone completely out of buisness, there is a big GM Motors plant that I live by, that is shutting its doors for good, there will be hundreds, maybe thousands of good people outta work just from that. I think thats why the police agencies are such bastards right now,is because of our states economic crisis, all these fuckin cops and vice unit and detectives are scrambling to keep their jobs,so they trying to really bust down on folks hard to get a bunch of fines and shit for the failing state economy. I sit and wonder how this bitch Granholm ever got elected for her second term, when Michigan was already in bad shape from her first term, she has done nothing but run this state into the ground. Wow....sorry for the rant.
P.S. Dont know if youve heard our state motto "Michigan-come on vacation...leave on probation"

Lets say somewhere in the southeast, Cops were super intense all spring/summer/and fall making drug busts around here.
I think about all the carbon footprint they leave behind flying cop helicopters litterally patrolling the vastness to find crops, How they leave their cop cars running all the time. Its ridiculous, Not to mention 5.0 liter crown vics or big fat chevy suburbans with 454's.

Its ridiculous how many peoples lives gets ruined right there on the side of the road by cops who dont care about our rights. We dont have rights anymore, just an illusion of rights.

At least 5 times a day i see cops going up and down this street, when i drive 1 out of 3 times someone will be getting pulled over and harrassed.

I guess its just prepping for the american people so we all figuer its ok to be policed becasue we are raised this way.

And yes, How the F*CK did granholm get elected again. We need some constitutionalist or libritarian from the milita to run and win for goven-at-or.

Only good thing about michigan, second largest armed forces in america, the michigan milita.

Yup, pretty much! I'm so thankful that I have a good job, my friends can't even get jobs at McDonald's right now.  I live by the Ann Arbor area and work at the U of M and it's foreign everything.  All these damn foreign car's are shutting down plants here left and right.  It's rediculous how many people need a job now a days.  I'm moving to marquette in a month, but I should probably just get the hell out of here.

aside from your disregard for the problem driving under the influence causes you are right and i am upset about it too. Thats why i moved out of Livonia. They and a few other cities in wayne and oakland counties are nazi esque in both tactics and mission. I drove an old ghetto roller 77 Pontiac and lived  in a nice upper-white community. I got pulled over twice a month for no fucking reason ever. I got searched multiple times  without consent and harassed in many ways including being forced to stand outside in febuary for 90 minutes, and subjected to interrogations while being smacked against the hood, or having my face pressed firmly against the glass of the window.

I even got pulled over turning out of my drive way a few times, where even the fairy tail po's couldn't come up with articulable reason for a stop. I guess they wanted to say "hi." Ive been cuffed 5 times without being arrested. I could go on i guess....

Once my home got broken into, but they only really hit the garage. The detective assigned to the case never returned my calls and to my knowledge no work was ever done to assist me in the case. This has lead me to believe there are only a few illegal things in michigan, throw out the rest of the law. You can be pulled over if you:

*appear black, or to have blacks in a car
*have a non suburbanite vehicle
*if you are on any public road between 3am and 6am
*If you live in an lower end area
*if your car looks run down
*if you look at an officer the wrong way while stopped at a light.
*if you are seen exiting the parking lot of a bar, bowling alley, pool hall etc. .
*if you have more than one passanger
*etc

It is now also reasonable for a cop to search you if he/she feels you are "suspicious." Reasons for said suspicion are @ the sole discretion of the fascist LEO, and do not need to be explained prior to, during, or after said search.

I know it's probably the same story in many other places, but i live here so there you go.

Once I was arrested saying I emptied my vitamin capsules and filled them with cocaine (fucking bullshit)It was because I had my balck friend in the car (who is the whitest black guy I have every known) they said girls like me transport 40 kilo's of cocaine all the time.  I had to spend the night in jail then I had a warrent out for my arrest for the possesion of dangerous drugs......pending lab results, and they didn't tell me that, I found out at a job interview (that was priceless)

And the cops shot my dog! They fucking murdered her!  It's absolutely horrible here.

Michigan police are the stupidist, most racist, lying sons a bitches out there!!

Yeah I must admit that Michigan is a complete shit hole. I live in northern michigan and I have to commute an hour for work. I would live closer to my job but when you get too close to the city housing costs more than what you can afford. I work at Delphi in saginaw and I get paid complete shit. I get 12.50 an hour and I have a very technical job. I run tests on electronic controller boards for a new electronic stearing system. My benefits are also shit. They want me to pay 125 bucks a week for health insurance. What a bunch of fuck tards.

The cops are even worse here. It also seems like the smaller the town the worse they are. Don't get caught in a small town in michigan with anything or else you are going away for a long time. Plus the prisons here are so full. there are cities in michigan that are prisons. I know the UP there are a few cities that have like 4 or 5 prisons. It is completely rediculous.

I can't believe that Obama pick Granholm to sit on a financial committee. Yeah lets pick the worst bitch for the job. That bitch has done nothing for the state except for throwing all of the money away into beautifying detroit. Yeah that is what we need. Obviously detroit and flint are a lost cause. Two cities on the top 10 most dangerous cities in the US list.

And for anyone that drives drunk and gets caught you should be thrown in Jail. That is about the only thing I agree on in this state.

I live further north than all of you and the cops don't seem that bad, maybe it's just because I'm used to it. When I lived in Detroit I noticed its complete anarchy, no cop control at all. Being pulled over for no reason is not control btw, it's all they can do to remind people that there still are cops in this state.
For the record I don't think it's Granholm's fault as much as it's Bush's. The war in Iraq is the bane of Michigan's existence, after gas prices went through the roof the auto industry took a shit and that's all we have. I don't think DeVos could've done any better except divert all the money into his little mecca of Grand Rapids. It's time for a 3rd party to take over.

I've heard that's Florida's state motto since I was about 13.

A Google search kinda confirms it:

Living in Detroit is like being in the wild west. I like it! I moved here to gain freedom. Sure, you sacrifice a misguided sense of safety you have in the burbs, but the truth is bad shit happens everywhere and at least here i have one less thing working against me ( cops. )

I've been fucked with one time in the D by police and it was hilarious looking back on it. I had about 10 people in my 4 door sedan, and one of them had his leg hanging out the window. I was driving drunk. We got pulled over and lined up on the curb. The cops saw that we wernt shit heads, and they decided to scare us (me.) I got pulled to the car and they acted like they were going to search my whip, but basically they just waited till a few people got a cab, then hid my keys in my car under the seat.

They let me go back to the car and as i was walking to it they reversed about 200 feet and parked again. So im like wtf? next i get to the car and realize they hadnt given me my keys (or knife) back. So i walked all the way back to the cops and asked them for both. I got my knife back and they told me the keys were on the roof of the car. I started walking back to my car and the cops drove off. When i got there i looked on the roof and, oh shit! no keys.. I sat there panicking for about 5 minutes before i found the keys under the seat. i had a good laugh about it once i got back to my place, and low and behold, have not had the urge to drive drunk since.

Don't say idiotic things. He isn't in office yet, and he has said nothing about wanting to make it a police state. Bush has come closer to that, because he and McCain are authoritarian cunts. Would you rather have authoritarian cunts in office? Plus, Obama has an energy policy, and a president with a real energy policy is somewhat smary; Obama also has a degree in constitutional law.

I live in Muskegon, and never have problems. I'm rather open too, hell, I've even told teachers I toke up. I'm doing nothing wrong, so fuck em. It's like anywhere else in the US, be careful. Even in Cali they can arrest you for pot.

3 million people in prison in the US... thats more than the population of Jamaca, or Kuwait, or Oman, or Uraguay.

3 million is almost 10% of the population of Canada.

there are 30 states in the USA with populations less than 3 million. among them are: Iowa, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Kansas, respectively.

Michigan sucks!!!

I was pulled over for going through a yellow light, I asked the officer if it turned red while I was under the light. She told me no and told me that I shouldn't have gone anyways and wrote me a ticket for going through a red light. On top of it there is a city near Detroit where cameras monitor the ENTIRE city.

I am scared to drive my car around the city where I live.. I drive a POS and I know that one day I will be pulled over because I'm not driving an Audi, mercadies, porshe, or BMW like my neighbors.

Fuck Michigan

My sister's husband was going to set up a northern MI gathering in August but it never worked out, I couldn't have gone anyway his name is b_3jamboree but he doesn't post here much.
I'm down for next summer though, maybe a UP gathering if people are willing to carpool and drive that far. Or at least somewhere on Lake MI/ Huron would be sweet I love tripping on the beach!

O man I love Hessel it's one of my favorite parts of the UP, it's just something about being on the north shore of Lake Huron. Other than the far western part rules but that's way too far of a drive. Yeah Magikgirl you need to get to the UP you are missing out Gaylord sucks btw.
I know some state land in Hessel around a little inland lake we could do it, but on the big lake would rule.

I am planning for two michigan gatherings next summer. One is going to be a hiking trip on North Manitou Island up by traverse city. Space for that gathering is going to be extremeley limited as I think there is a limit in how many people you can have in your group. I expect this gathering to be more for vets of previous gatherings.

I am also planning on a normal gathering, but I don't have a clue where yet. Posts for these gatherings will be made around january in the Gathering and Travel forum. So if you're interested in meeting some shroomerites check the forum for more info. If we would like a good camping spot reservations at most state and national parks need to be made no later than feb. The camping spots that we need are in high demand and fill quickly.

Wow...

I can't believe how pessimistic everyone from michigan is... I've lived here 25 years with no problems. Yea i got arrested and they fucked me (in fact still are fucking me but i get by fine)... but maybe i shouldn't have been driving in possession with open intox, under the influence on a suspended license, leaving a bar at 1:30 am in the ghetto.

other than that i haven't had problems since i was a teen when i deserved to get busted for being a stupid bastard kid doing stupid shit...

michigan is fantastic... i might trade it for any other place but where you live is what you make it, any other place can be just as fantastic or miserable... you can blame granholm for your trouble, but it's up to you to find the beauty in your situation.

Anyone ever goto lake michigan for a sunset while shrooming? fanfuckingtastic! finding deeply hidden magnificent waterfalls and lakes on unmarked paths in the porcupine mountains. painted rocks amazing trails and some LSD, a starry night on the dunes overlooking the lake on some mushrooms (michigan gathering '07). learning about the glaciers that used to be over michigan partially causing it's abundance of lakes..great edible mushroom hunting... the morels are awesome here, chickens & hens a plenty. psilocybe caeurilupes, pan subbs, gyms and amanita muscaria (var.guessowi) all grow here wildly. Cubensis, azures, cyans all do fantastic outdoors here. i don't know about you guys but the kind bud selection from the local dealers is going stonger than it ever was?

the quartz crystal in the sand at beaches is mesmerizing, just stop and stare at the sand really closely.... there's so much to michigan, you can see the northern lights, there's random strange natural phenomena that occur here and as of late the Acid, hash and edibles are and i';ve always been able to find shrooms here...

so evidently you guys should come to Grand Rapids, because from the sound of it all fuck detroit and we're always welcome to more like minded individuals.. yea fuck devos too i know... i lived 3 doors down from his ada mansion for 2 1/2 years, but i can get a job here. i understand the failing auto industry and granholm's failure to help us. I didn't vote for either of them. i understand we spend more on prison then education, but you can sit here and bitch about it or get up and do something about it, when's the last time you tried to write a letter to granholm, your representative, senator or any other elected official? when's the last time you donated money to the cause after what you are? When's the last time you chose to smile because frowning wasn't going to get you anywhere? everyone's always bitching that they (politicians) don't hear us... maybe we're not speaking loud enough.

Sure, I live in the ghetto, but that's by choice. we're not getting pissed about the filth, we're cleaning it up and making changes. instead of wallowing in pity for ourselves and community, we choose action.

you can argue about michigan all day and i can argue your points about why it sucks just as well. however, like i said, it's what you make of it so quit being so negative and maybe something positive will happen to you...

now as far as a gathering is concerned...

me and kungpow have been talking about it for a while. unfortunately we didn't get one this past summer. Like he mentioned we are talking about a manitou island trip (limited to 10 or 15 i believe) for the michigan gathering vets, if any space is left i'm sure we'd invite someone who wasn't to the dunes with us in '07 (probably chosen by seniority on the boards).

as for michigan gathering '09 watch g&t. me and kungpow have been talking about it and if you have recommendations i'm sure KP as well as myself are open to suggestion so my PM box is always open...

btw the sand sculpture in my sig is form michigan gathering '07

it was a fucking blast they didn't bother us, we chose the rural group camping sites they were like giant ampitheaters with a big fire pit at the center of the dip.

there are lots of good places up near the dunes that aren't state park though... i wouldn't have traded the last experience or place for anything but i'm open to new ideas.

your welcome:D

thanks for your help! more people should be active and apply themselves in such way.

I'm totally down for St. ignace area or tahquamenon falls, it's gorgeous up there... more so once the leaves start coming out though or even better in the fall with the colors, although summer up there is great temps(not for water). we could go up in morel season. for a good portion of the lower penninsula it'll be nearing and end during peak season up there. I don't know about everyone else but i know i want to go on a hunt this time (i believe morelman is with me on this one)

anyway, we should save all this discussion for the summer gathering thread, and focus on the winter one.

Vern Ehler's sucks... that's one negative thing about michigan i ahve to admit....

my latest email from him (i average a few emails from his office every month, sometimes it's generic sometimes it's different)

Quote:

Dear {name edited out for obvious reasons},

Thank you for contacting me regarding medical marijuana. I appreciate your willingness to share your concerns.

In 1970, the Controlled Substances Act established a federal system for regulating drugs based on their potential for abuse. It regulates drugs by using five schedules. Drugs such as heroin, marijuana, and other illicit substances are the most restrictively controlled, and are known as "Schedule I" drugs since these drugs have a high potential for abuse and have no accepted medical use in the U.S. It is illegal to manufacture, distribute or possess these drugs. Drugs with little potential for abuse and a recognized medical use are usually assigned to Schedules II through V. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has the authority to enforce the Controlled Substances Act.

Changing current law to allow patients to use marijuana for medical purposes raises a host of contentious scientific, regulatory and political issues. While there has been much debate over whether marijuana can provide patients with therapeutic relief similar to prescription drugs, experts have concluded that scientific evidence is insufficient to assess marijuana's medical potential. For the drug to be available for medical use, each of its alleged uses would have to be scientifically documented through clinical trials. Also, the Department of Health and Human Services would have to be persuaded that marijuana smoking poses less risk than previously thought.

As Congress considers this issue, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind. I will also continue to strongly support the vigorous enforcement and prosecution of our current drug laws. Thanks again for contacting me. With best wishes, I am

                                                                                                    Sincerely,

Vernon J. Ehlers
                                                                                                    Member of Congress

i've gone back and forth with this guy. I've done it in person and through correspondence such as email, speaking to one of his interns or assistants during phone calls to his office, and written letters. I've always remained very calm and professional. I wrote him this last time to explain that now the people of the state of michigan have, by a large margain, shown their support for medical marijuana in the recent election and how it was his job as the representative to our country for the people of the state, elected by the people of the state, to support our views by supporting H.R. 5842: The Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act.
