B+ Grow - 5lb Hpoo, small FC - **PICS** 796g 1st flush!!!
    #9255345 - 11/16/08 03:09 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

This is my 2nd grow, my first was with Mexi-Cub's had OK success with that:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/9039902/an/0/page/0

I used the same small Foam FC, and bubble humidifier i made for the 1st grow. (Explained in the link)

inoculated a quart jar of WBS with B+ spores, colonized incredibly fast!! spawned to 5lb Hpoo, colonized even faster on this, threw into fruiting chamber w/ 16 hrs light until pinning initiated,  started out real uneven and the small ones caught up real quick.
i also fanned about 20x's / day. im around my home quite abit.

The first couples days of pinning, large towards the outside, small and abundant towards the middle.

The pins starting to become large.

Ready for Harvest, SOOOOO Dense i cant even see the lower level of shroomies, let alone the bottom

(Large) Lighter used for referencer

The second half of the flush i had still yet to harvest. The pinset and grow was sooooo dense it was a bit hard to harvest

The whole 1st Flush, (small) lighter used for reference

796 g's of pure Magic!!!!!!!!
(w/out the weight of the container - zeroed out before harvesting)

on the screen for drying

The Largest of the flush (small lighter) some of the larger weighed over 30g's a piece.
The biggest was almost 10"

Cant wait for that 2nd flush!!:grin:

Ha thankS!! SO PUmped i got a good grow!! and by PC i assume you mean Pressure Cooker, (ha sorry still a bit of a noob) but... I actually got all my supplies on eBay, already PC'ed and sterile.. its pretty cheap, easy and convenient!! dont have to mess with raw materials, PC's, and contams.. Just pay someone else to handle it.. paid maybe 25.00 for eveything for this grow!!

- and most vendors online ive worked with offer refunds if it becomes contaminated before you use!! never had a prob with contams that wasnt my fault

some tips / things i did differently that i think helped contribute to the great flush were:
(and feel free to add if i missed something, of if i'm wrong)

- exposed the colonized substrate to light for 2 days (no fanning or misting) with the bubbler running to keep humidity, before adding the casing layer

- added casing layer, just enough to cover the white of the Hpoo, prob > 1/8" of casing materials. but applied slightly dry, not near field capacity

- misted heavily for the first couple days after applying casing, to the point right before "glistening", only for about 2 days tho, no more

- fanned the FC about once / hour during the day

- dropped the temp a bit at night (dark), and raised a few degrees during the day (light)

so did this pre-pasteurized substrate you bought include any other ingredients beside hpoo? Such as straw or vermiculite, or is it just straight composted hpoo?

I like that little setup you're using, just checked out the other thread.  Now what are you running an air-pump to the bubbler?  what kind?  I bet that bubbler works just as good if not better than those tropic-aire things.

ya it works really good, especially if you seal the bottle up with silicon sealant.. it creates positive air pressure, constantly pumping in small amounts of fresh humid air..

the pump is a small 1-20 gal pump.. you can get em for less than 8 bucks @ walmart and petco / petsmart

hah no i just think this bag was the shit! (ha no pun intended) its just the particular i bag used.
it was soo easy. i knocked up a grain jar, added it to the bag and poured the bag in ( all in the right times)

there are a bunch of other vendors that have essentially the same things on ebay too! they are have great prices, better than the large vendors IMO, they are easy to use and they work great!

this is only my second ever grow btw.. i just think the pre-made bags are real easy if you wanna get in to bigger grows like this and your still new

I feel the same way about buying my substrate pre-bagged and ready to use right outta the bag.  When I move on from the Mycobags I'm using now, I think I'm gonna get some WBS jars/bags ready to use, and then some bulk sub from weretheshit.com - I really like the idea of not having to measure, mix, PC, pasteurize, etc.. I don't mind if it costs a few extra bucks, it's just about the convenience.

Some people on here tho are having some shitty lucky w/ some of the other ebay bags, that you fruit invitro.  Said they came all dried out, dusty and shit.  But if you're buying those bags just to use as bulk, it's fine, as you've proven.

i had kept it nearly frozen in my mini fridge i have in my grow area, let it thaw once the wbs spawn was almost ready.

i  poured a fully colonized qt jar of WBS into it and resealed the bag and put back in the incubator. it took 2 days to colonize 50%, poured into my little foam cooler FC, and it took 4 more days to fully colonize..

exposed the fully colonized substrate to light without casing, misting, or fanning (but kept the bubbler running)

cased, misted fanned, etc.. and the rest is in the pics!

well i hope my bulk grow goes the way yours went...i have 35 quarts of WBS inoculated with PESA spores...though i will have to get it to fit in about 9 tubs that are 9x13x7 inches, so my spawn ratios will probly be a bit richer than yours, about 1:4 or 1:4.5 ...and that will definitely cut into the total yields a bit...

on a side note...how much volume would about 5lbs hpoo fully hydrated take up...in quarts...or better yet...

CappyGilmore, what size tub is that and what is ur final substrate depth?

my FC i made was a cheap foam cooler you can buy at pretty much any gas station.. Its about 11" x 12", and about 14" deep.. with 5lb Hpoo and the 1 qt of WBS, the substrate depth is about 3"-4" deep (maybe a slightly more before the first flush)

i remeber, for reference, the 5 lbs of hpoo fit almost perfectly into a 13 x 9 tuperware container i had, it was packed tight when it fit tho so keep that in mind... it will be alot more volume when actually growing

Noob # 2 reporting in.

The bags had self healing injection sites, so I could shoot my spore syringe into the bag instead of making jars???

If so then these bags are the way to go and why havent these been brought to my attention earlier

Though it is like cheating

Ya, if your talking about the spawn bags, if its manure i would recommend getting a grain spawn jar or bag, and then mixing the fully colonized spawn with the manure..

if tried injecting the spores into a manure bag and nothing happened for three weeks, i finally gave up on it..

also, a side note, when inoculating a grain spawn bag, make sure not to use to much spore solution, i once got over zealous, injected somewhere between 8-10ml (too much / wet) and it ended up fermenting and ruining the bag

Hey, nice flush bro.. how long did the b+ strain take once you introduced your light cycle and began to fruit from pins to mature? Just curious cuz I'm currently fruiting the same strain, I've never tried B+ before. Thanks dude and congrats.

took about 3 days to see pins from casing, about 6 days for the pins to mature to harvest.. they grew a bit slower in the beginning than the mexi's, but the last stage they grewy so fast it was unbelievable..

the large pins picture to the thick, dense top view pic was literally overnight.. only about 13 hours!!!

Sweet, for 10 bux it is totally worth it, way better then gathering all the materials and sterilizing yourself, especially for people like me who cant seem to be contaminate free. I am a noob though, I hear growing pains are normal in this hobby.

Do you have a detailed TEK on you FC, I want to try and copy your TEK becuase 86 grams dry for your first flush is enough to keep me happy for 6 to 8 months. Hell if your second flush is more then the first it would be enough to keep me and a few friends happy for 6 to 8 months

Because they aren't sold by a sponsor here and posting links to non-sponsors for products the sponsors sell is against the rules.

It just never occurred to me that Ebay is an option. I didnt know buying planting material was illegal

Still, being overly cautious is always better then not.

My bad didnt know... they asked for the specific item i bought, so i posted the link.
im not advocating this product over any other. i think any product like this would work the same..

im pretty sure MycoPath, a site sponsor, sells the exact same bags too

theres tons of reason i guess i could give, and there are tons of other factors you must perfect to yield results, but i guess the best reason for buying a premade bag...

its easy for beginners (ie. me) and really helps to cut down on the failure rate due to contams..

you'll never learn anything that way though you know?

it's really not that hard not to get contams once you get things figured out.  it's a learning expierence.

True that! i just bought them this time being it was only my second ever grow attempt.. and i dont have a PC..

once i get a handle on every other aspect i probably will invest in a PC and try doing every step myself..

See that's not how I look at it at all.  I don't look at ready-to-use substrate as somebody else doing everything - the grower is still doing ALL the work.

most of the work is in mixing and measureing your substrate's.  have you ever had to squeeze 40-50 qrts worth of sub to field capacity?  that's work.  your taking all the fun and expierence out of the hobby buying everything pre-made.

until you have the satisfaction of pulling a 1/4 lb out of tub that made YOURSELF from scratch you'll have no idea what im talking about.

I know exactly what you're talking about.  But like I said, I'm all set with having to measure, mix, PC, pasteurize, etc.. and having bags of substrate ingredients sitting around.  Whether or not I made/mixed my substrate myself means so little to me.  All the fun is in growing them.
