sweet a melbourne thread... watched it last night as well, thought it started really well and overall was a great movie, but some parts really frustrated me, like when he's flying out in space and all u can hear is the breathing, and the end didn't really make any sense to me. meh i'll watch it again on shrooms and probably have a whole new outlook on it

On my first solo trip, i ate half of a 5-strip and as i was coming up put this on. In the beginning there is the black screen and it sounds like instruments tuning or something, well it was anything but that for me. The remoteness and ambience of the movie is really amazing and almost perfectly crafted movie for a trip. Kubrick is one of my favorite directors and this movie is amazing - MUST SEE!

I had a really 'wise' or at least he tried to be, teacher a while back.
He talked about all of the imagery, and hidden meaning in the movie.
Thats whats astounding to me, by accident or not, the director implementing so many hidden meanings and implications.

Yeah i took a class called "Film analysis and composition" and the first part of the class was kinda boring, studying the evolution of film and stuff. Then we got to studying movies made from kubrik and hitchcock kurosawa and its very interesting that these movies are FAR more than just entertainment. Each is well thought out and designed to implement a meaning. We looked at film like one would look at art.

Yes, yet even more evidence that LSD increases intelligence.
I saw the end of it on LSD when I was in high school. I had done some acid overnight and was still tripping when I went to class and we watched the end of it. I just remember that the class's discussion was quite animated and I really had to try hard not to laugh too much.
It's a pretty good film. Most of Kubrick's are.
EDIT - I remember taking a friend of mine to see Full Metal Jacket after I gave him something like 500 - 600 mg of DXM HBr powder. He was seriously confused when he came out of the film and kept thinking that he had to start protesting in order to put an end to the Vietnam war.

Clark wrote the novel after the movie was made coincidentally. The book is really a great read and helps to understand the movie with a forward written by Arthur C himself.
I have watched that movie many times and saw it in the theater when I was like 9 and it totally changed my life.

HAL's death scene is quite possibly the greatest death scene I've ever seen. Hauntingly wonderful.

Any movie makers here? somebody needs to make 3001: A Spice Odyssy
