You've never heard of it?
I watched it in high school about 10 years ago and I remember someone saying that his mother told him that the film was made for acid-heads.
One of the ads for the film simply said, "The ultimate trip."
It's an excellent film. A science fiction classic, Dave.
You have heard of Stanley Kubrick, right?
Personally, I think the three best science fiction films are The Terminator, Alien and Aliens. Of course, many count the latter two as being more horror films than sci-fi, but they're still excellent films.

Stanley Kubrick was an amazing cinematographer , he really was far ahead of his time. [ full metal jacket , Dr Strangelove . etc ] and i am in full agreement with you on 2001:A space odyssey , IT IS the best tripping movie around [ especially recommended for first-timers ]

i will have to watch it again and see if there is something i am missing

this movie almost entirely by itself sparked my interest in psychedelic drugs, many years ago. (along with the novel series, which is fantastic)
i try to watch it semi regularly when i trip, as its always a treat. the ambience of the movie is so easy to get lost in.

I can't believe you've never heard of this movie.
It is a classic. A lot of people don't like it because it's a work of art rather than flashing lights and explosions and simple concepts.
Pink Floyd's song "Echoes" syncs up to the last 23 minutes of the move, and personally I think it goes better than the actual score/soundtrack for that part of the movie

Maybe i will watch it tonight.

I saw that movie on a nice low dose of LSD. Not enough to have insane visuals, but enough to get that psychedelic mind state going. It was so amazing!

I love that movie
-------------------- "If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution - then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise." - Aldous Huxley GIVE ME OPIATES OR GIVE ME DEATH

it would be the ultimate first acid experience, watching it on the big screen. it makes me want to get a home theater just to see it on big screen.
