Maybe I am just an idiot and I don't know how to smoke hash, I always thought the best way to smoke hash was using something like a meth pipe to have an indirect flame. This method seems like a huge waste...

I can see smoking hash like that in an emergency situation where no pipe is available, I guess it's a good technique to know, like how to make a pipe out of a pop can or an apple. But they called the video "how to smoke hash", period. I have to assume they're just dumb.
Personally I just break it up and mix it with a bowl.

Seems like a big waste, yeah!
I always just take a small piece of it, and heat it up with a lighter (if the hash is on fire...you heated it too much). Then you just grab the piece between your fingers and it crumbles right away!
Pop that in a bowl, on top of a little herb, and you golden!

no bowl of hash has ever lasted me an hour. it would have to be heaper.
seeing that video reminds me of smoking hash oil off of coals (from the headshop), which is much better than hash off a wooden table.
