Welcome to the frickin' club. I recently moved inland from the west coast and as soon as I had mycelium exposed to the environment [post casing] the Plague of Flies began. The real bitch is getting rid of them! Stamets mentions that he has allowed little resident frogs to take up residence in his grow rooms [warehouses?] and at night he hears the melody of his little amphibious watchdogs. So aside from praying mantises or a bug zapper, I'm at a loss. I've read that the odor of growing mushrooms is an almost pheremonal attractant to some flies--much like rotten flesh is to others.
Good luck, bacteria was nothing compared to these little bastards.

You mean fungus-flies.
They suck. I've seen them hit casings and improperly sealed bags, but never in jars. Leave it to moe for another first.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

These lunatic bugs are what wiped out everything I had last year!! My whole house had them everywhere.. They went from the fungus to our sweet potatoes to our decrative gourds (still fresh)... It was awful... Only way I found to get rip of them is get rid of anything they like and wait...

if they are dung- or or other small flies...the bastards live on the mycelium and spread like hell usually....get rid of the jar MOE !!! or put him outside on your window so the flies get blowin`in the wind

I had a test today on fruit fly genetics.. Did you know that if you cross a mutant phenotype white eyed male with a wild type red eyed female you get no white eyed offspring because the male is hemizygous recessive and it is linked to the XY chromosomes. Bet you didn't know that heh heh... (Just a joke, I've just been studying the shit all week)...We fed ours to the fish in lab yesterday if that makes anyone feel better....

The flys come from the numerous maggots in the mix although they often hit only some jars, the only thing worse than finding maggots in your stems is finding half maggots!

Ya I got that little basterds, when I moved everything over to a friends house. "I'm just becomming to paranoid" But the other day he was wondering why the wood ships had flies over them, I'm Ilke shit!! I rememember Stamets saying that the littel fuckers eat the myeclium. So I told him to kill all he sees do not bug spray anything just get some green tree frogs and dump them in the tank.
