Put high school ed. on resume?
    #9221514 - 11/10/08 11:14 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

Most sites say you shouldn't put your high school info on resume if you have completed college. But I went to a good high school and got an "honors diploma", which means I did well. Should I include it or does it seem like I am digging for things to brag about? Anyone have any better insight into this than me?

Probably not worth mentioning since college implies high school, and nobody really cares about the honors thing.  Maybe valedictorian, maybe.

Don't put your high school info on your resume if you have completed college.

I don't think there is any right or wrong answer to this.  A lot of people won't list it,  but if you are a recent, young, college  graduate you may not have a lot of things to add to a resume and might want to add it.

You could compromise by creating an "Awards and Honors" section and listing it there (along with any other things you've received).

I dont think serious employers give a fuck about high school education.

They want to see good grades in college, relevant work experience, extracurricular activities with leadership positions, and awards & honors.

edit:

Just FYI, my resume has these sections:
-Objective
-Education
-Work history
-Extracurricular
-Scholarships

resume's should be only one page, and pack as much punch in there as possible... most resumes get ~15seconds of examination, so you gotta tell them a lot, and fast

I have something like 10 sections, although I guess technically, I have a CV, not a resume.

Bradley - are you still in college?  if so - go join a bunch of shit.

When i was tryign to get into the program I attended this summer in DC, i joined 2 honor societies and became a Student Senator all within 3 days.

If you're out of college, there are still a bunch of organizations you could join.  If you're in a city - there are likely to be professional organizations relating to the field of study you participated in.  For example, i'm an econ major - and there's a local economics 'club' in norfolk that I plan on joining if i get a job here.

I'm in a couple Honor Societies, but I haven't really participated in them whatsoever.  Basically, I was eligible to join for making good grades, so I joined and was inducted, but other than that I'm not involved with them at all.  Is this normal?  I kind of feel bad, but at the same time, I don't really feel the need to participate.

I wonder if employers ignore clubs and societies for that reason. It seems like most people just join and don't do anything, or go to the party once a month.

But I am finished with college. Did you find you econ club on a certain website?

typically clubs and organizations only matter if you are an officer in them.

Also employers don't give a rat about high school and your distinction.

They will value the higher education.

Also do not list any college that you did not receive some form of certificate or diploma in.  they dont care if you went to xyz if you didn't graduate or get a certificate for some certification.
