Do flowers continue to grow over long periods of time if you keep adding fertilizer to the water?

Do flowers need near laboratory conditions to produce reliably?

I have been adding a solution of corn syrup and water to the casing layer of one of my PF-style cakes, with a double-ended casing. The cake was from a 1/4 pint jar (not 1/2 pint, as usual, but that is another story), and is now in its 4th flush, with no contamination and some MASSIVE fruits. I don't know if the table syrup helped any, but it sure as hell didn't hurt.

BTW, the strain is Hawaiian, in case you are curious.

Psycho Mike - Sounds like you are on to something. I've been thinking about this lately, and I've just wondered what types of things I could add to the water, ie. yeast, potato water, honey, etc. In theory, the added nutrients should be enough for the mycelium to not only survive but to friut again and again. I'm going to start testing this out. BTW, how does that double ended casing tek work?

I know a good friend of myne injects 10 CC's of a Dextrose/Water solution into his spent cakes to pull an extra 2-3 flushes. If you guys want I could ask him for his formula.

OK Ripper, have you asked your friend ?
ANd did he experiment with others things, and found out it is the best, or just assumed that dextroses is pure thing, and that is it?

I need to get in touch with him, I don't talk with him on a regular basis. I do remember our discussion regarding it. He worked for a laboratory, and one of the people there was a mycologist. He asked him why fungii would stop fruiting. The reply was that it stopped fruiting when either it runs out of water, or the food supply is cut short. Now he took that along with the basic knowledge that cubensis feeds of sugars. From that he devised that he would inject his spent cakes with a dextrose water solution. I just left a message on his pager to get in touch with me. I should know something in the next day or two. Will post an update =)

Where would one find dextrose? Health store? Would fructose work? How about freshly juiced fruit, which contains sugars?
I really like this post, I am going to play with some casings I have. If I find anything interesting I'll post.

Everyones goal here is of course to have a setup that is somewhat self sustaining, requiring only the addition of nutrients and water, and the subtraction of waste/product (I am not sure what waste there would be). This setup would require emulating the mushrooms natural habitat.

Chris.

right before reading this I injected Br.rice/h2o solution into a spent cake to see what would happen. Looks like we are all on the same page. Keep the thread going, I will give my results in a week probably...

I'm interested in this H2O2/dextrose mix.

If anyone can elaborate, it would be greatly appreciated;-) I'm willing to give anything a try. But first I need to know what the mix is exactly;-) LOL

Iv'e read somewhere before of drilling a hole in center of exhausted cake and put a straw in there so it fits tightly(water tight)fill straw with solution and again when empty. An extention of this idea:Make the hole in cake snuggly sqeeze the end of a tube(preferrabely a sterilized I.V. with bag) for constant feeding. You can make teas with yeast, grains, and minerals.Just learn of all nutrients shrooms love.Mabe add some phalaris extract to the tea(or other tryptamine contaning plants)to increase shroom potency.

p.s. the cake must be completely colonized into the middle to void contamination.
