To avoid any condensation on your petri lids, wait til the substrate has cooled more, but is still liquid enough to pour. You might not get quite as many dishes out of your agar, but it cuts down on the chance of contams from condensation.
as far as condensation slowing growth, i have found it not to be a problem at all. i use jars w/ filter disks and keep them right-side-up. condensation forms and can sometimes add to the possibility of contams, but as far as i can tell it is no big deal what so ever. -daniel.

I get some condensation on my petris and have never really had a problem. With indoor prints I've had a 100% success rate with my petris. Admitedly my girlfriend steam cleans the carpet every 3 days, and I live in a dry state... so maybe that's it .
