The article categorized Datura stramonium (jimsonweed) as a "hallucinogenic plant" even though technically it's more of a dillusionary. This is definatley not a plant to be triffled with. Obviously these kids underestimated the power of tropane alkaloids. But these kids weren't the first to discover this: The term "jimsonweed" is a corruption of "Jamestown weed", in reference to the fact that in 1676 cooks mistakenly added this species to salads eaten by English soldiers at Jamestown, Virginia.~from lycaeum.org
Hey I'll have a datura salad, hold the cucumbers. suby

Already tried some lots of times, being vary careful. It was a sorta like haveing a very bad cold where your vision goes blury and it becomes hard to walk with the added bonus of seeing weird creatures living in plants, talking to you friends when there not there and trying to spark up a joint just before it dissapears for the 50th time. I usualy just use the stuff with mescaline or Ayahuasca brew to help keep the stuff down, although it does alter the trip sum. But there should be extra caution with this plant I have only used up to half of leaf to feel the above affects and that was some dried stuff that was a year old. This stuff can kill or have you wandering around the streets naked talking to statues, try and explain that to the police.

Ive actually found that extremely low doses (2-3 hits) of smoked datura leaf, is not unpleasant at all and produces no hallucinations.

this shit is growing like mad in my front yard, and every time i walk by, im smacked in the face by its smell.....the temptation to try it gets greater every day... ive read the trip reports, and the fact that every one ends with.."this was horrible, never gonna do it again" scares the shit out of me, but i still want to try it....you know how it is, told not to do something so you do it anyway just because you werent supposed to....yup, thats me eventually i will try it, but at the moment i am way too intimated by it....it is obviously a very powerfull plant, and not to be taken lightly...... but theres gotta be some safe way to use this stuff.....

I know a guy who had a considerably disturbing experience with related plant Brugmansia - common in Australia. He was never the same again and was eventually institutionalised.

wrestler, i have quite the same feeling you have about datura, but with brugmansias instead... i don't think is of much use talking about dosage since this plant's content is very unpredictable...

There was an article in the Entheogen Review a few years back that involved how to use it in a "safe way". The auther used vinegar extracts of different plants from the Solanaceae family, started with only a few drops under the tongue, waiting 24-48 hours and then slowly working up. I believe there also was some kind of recipe for this vinegar stuff. Be careful and dont take anything from me, find the article. Oh, and I think the author was some kind of Wiccan, so you maybe should take what he says with a grain of salt also

The ethnogenic use of these plants has a huge history. They have been used safely for many hundred of years, but just not by reckless people

you sad it ,most people ara not shamans or holly man ,and just want to get stoned and this plant is just not the recreational drug, nor can it be treated like that,so i think that people should know what they are getting them self into.useing it responsibly wont kill you ,but it can fry you badly and leave permenant damage on ones mind and body

It all has to do with how levelheaded you are, and how able you are to control yourself. Anyone that goes out and uses Datura without any idea what they are getting into is bound for disaster. The key is knowing what to expect and how to enjoy it.

probably a good idea to stay sober, but why in the world would you want to throw a party with so many mind altering chemicals and a bunch of people who will be no doubt staying at YOUR house for a very long period of time. Won't you get sick of them?
