nice. not as good as the episode where they think he has rabies and he runs away into the woods and eats a bunch of active mushrooms because he thinks he's a wilderness survival expert.
"These mushrooms are keepig me alive!"

And Dale talked the pig through the trip.
The active was some truffle looking thing, may have been sclerotia, that Hanks dog dug up. The pig was lost, Dale borrowed the dog to find the pig, but decided to use the dog to find the truffles.
When the dog found it Dale said, it's purple and don't smell quite right, and the pig showed up snatched it out of his hand and chowed it down.

Yeah, that's why dogs are sometimes preferred over pigs, 'cause dogs aren't interested in eating the mushrooms they find.

I found a deer truffle this fall, squirrels had been at it and eaten a bunch of it, so it was exposed near the surface of the pine duff. It was pretty pungent, I think people could find these by smell if the squirrels didn't get to them first.

Has anyone ever seen the Smurfs episode with the truffle huntings pigs? They look like Warcraft 1 orcs, but they are pink.

Took me a while to find the pics of these, I'm pretty sure these are deer truffles,

They were about 2 inches wide by 1 inch by 1 inch.

Yeah, probably, they grow under pines and oaks for sure, in the Northeast, so if you have either tree there, you probably have truffles.

Ive never had a truffle, but Ive heard they are delectable. I know nothing about them though, are they usually buried? What season do they come out?

Some taste good, some don't, there are different kinds of truffles. These deer truffles I don't think are that good eating, I didn't try them though. They are usually buried, but can be exposed and only partially buried. I found these because they were exposed in pine duff and eaten by something, probably a squirel. You can sometimes find them by turning over logs in oak woods.
The season is late summer and fall, but they may fruit in the spring.
