Learning about electronics
    #9209412 - 11/08/08 10:05 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

I recently decided that I would like to build a midi controller. I've done some homework online and it seems like it wouldn't be too hard to make one, given you have atleast a little bit of electronics knowledge.

I don't have any.

I don't want to become an expert over night, but when I get something in my head, it wont go away till I fill the void.

Can anyone recommend any good books worth buying, or any pointers in which direction I might need to steer towards. Not really on the MIDI side of things, but the fundementals. I will do my own research regardless, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm going into this blind as fuck.

Thanks!

ELECTRONICS FOR DUMMIES may be a start not that I have read it or know much about electronics, though in the past ive found torrents for "dummies" books

I actually started reading that, a friend is going to donate a couple book's he has sitting around tomorrow aswell.

I'm pretty excited to find motivation to learn something new, I really hate the curve though. Takes me a while to catch on to new concepts, but that one day when everything falls together and things seem to make sense for the first time feels so good.

Or maybe I'll go to sleep and get bored by tomorrow.

I highly recommend The Art of Electronics by Horowitz & Hill.  It assumes that you know little to nothing about electronics and focuses on circuit design rather than theory.
